Hunting the tiny antelope is very challenging and exciting. Try hunting a wary Livingstone's Suni or Red Duiker in the thick jungle-like bush of Kwa-Zulu-Natal, or a Sharpes Grysbok on the run in the tall grass in Zimbabwe, or stalk a skittish Klipspringer in the granite kopjies. Do so, and you will know what we, who have done the same, mean. The Livingstone's Suni, Sharpes Grysbok and Klipspringer were all shot with the .375 H&H using Trophy Bonded Sledgehammer Solids. Here's some photos to enjoy:

Somebody explain the gonad enhancement of small game. I would be beyond embarrassed, to the point of mortification.

thanking you in advance,

Some people hunt for the pleasure of pitting their skill against and animal and some for the sheer joy of being in the bush.

If you hunt because you feel you feel you need gonad enhancement maybe you would have better success here:

Another thought on why I enjoy the little guys - they are ALL endemic. No unnatural man-made "enhancements"- auctions, breeding pens, blue pills, whatever.

IMO opinion, they are all natural with no artificial modifications - just the way I like 'em! Wink

I made 8 safari's and took most everything of interest to me in Zimbabwe including Elephant and Leopard and Buffalo. The only 2 animals I wanted and did NOT take were a Grysbok and a Lion and I hunted hard for both on almost every safari. Several Duiker a Steenbok and a very nice Klipspringer but never a Grysbok and blieve you me I tried.

Rich, I just love when people walk in my trophy room and ask me what is that little thing.

Gator,

if I need to pit my skills against something that will fit in the average turkey cooker, I go Rockchuck shooting here in Idaho. I built a 1000 yard rifle for them about eighteen years ago.
Those things cost more per pound than a trip to Japan for Kobe Beef; and you can't begin to compare a Geisha girl to what you see in Africa.
You need to get out more...

I hear that. Leaving tommorrow for Eastern Oregon. Some fishing and a couple of thousand rounds of .223 for Ground Squirrels.

Like you, I thought that the small antelope was waste of time and didn't really care if I filled my Duiker/Steenbok quota while I was there until I shot mine. My PH was estatic with the 5+ inch Steenbok that I got on the second to the last day of my hunt and wanted pictures of it for his photo album.

I realize that the trophies and memories should be rated on the excitement, challenge and enjoyment of the hunt more than size of the animal taken. But, a 5" Steenbok rates right up there with a 60" kudu as far as the challenge goes for me.

Now I just have to go back and get that 60" kudu!

I was hooked on the small guys after my first hunt in 95 during which I had shot a "huge" Steenbuck at the insistence of a very experienced mate of mine.....it is one of my most commented on trophies along with a 6" common grey Duiker.....which in my opinion is one of the hardest animals in Africa to get a large specimen of.....

if gonad enhancement is one's reason for hunting, try Viagra- it's much cheaper and probably more effective.

Why? Because they are there and, have you ever gone out specifically looking for a steinbok, dik dik etc.? You might run across one accidentally, but in my albeit extremely limited experience, when I wanted one, I couldn't find a shootable, let alone trophy, buck. Not the same thrill as buffalo, but definitely not easy.

Is that Bambi? Is that thing crying?

I guess I just prefer the idea of hunting things that hunt me back. I don't own a chihuahua either, more on the Ridgeback size. Anything you can hunt with a 17HMR is, never mind...

Rich, I too get off on the bite backs, and I could hunt nothing else other than Cape Buffalo for the rest of my life and never tire of it!

Having said that, however, I'm a pritty good instinctive shooter when it comes to running game of any size, and I fired two shots at a running dieker, and as far as I know he is still running. I really don't care much about the so-called plains game either, but I take a few every time I go to Africa, because like you I'm not going all the way to Africa, and spent thousands of dollars to shoot only two animals, but if I did, again like you, they would both be Buffalo. However I like seeing the full body mounts of the little guys in the trophy rooms of my friends, and if I get the chance while hunting buffalo, I'll certainly take one or more of the little antelope!

Though I like catching state record Large mouth bass, I get a big kick out of fly fishing for bluegill, on very light tackel, just as much! I supose, it is all in what you like! some men like fat women, some like them skinny, and some men like other men! I guess it doesn't matter to them what I like, nor does it matter to me what they like! To each his own!
