4 PH's? Sounds like another SA canned hunt.

You are only pretending to hunt DG when you have a bow.

Yakking on and on about an incident of a few seconds. Sounds like an AR hunt report. Smiler

I was waiting for the "giving the local kids teddy bears" bit.

"The crew of six guides and four professional hunters located one and stalked it to within 49 yards."

What are the day rates on that entourage?

Upon reading further what ever the day rate was it was too much...

It was 80 degrees and everyone in the hunting party had given him their extra clothes and water bottles to stuff into his backpack to carry .

“He hit that backpack and crushed the water bottles, but if they hadn't been in there he would have broken my spine,” Trotter said.

Maybe the angels got confused when the syncerus caffer was described as a "water" buffalo:

"A water buffalo tears you to pieces with its horns then stomps you to make sure you're dead, and that's what it was doing with his daypack."

Quite an authoritative piece by the reporter at Vail Ski Resort, obviously getting his facts from this intrepid adventurer. Glad he's recovering, but it is an awfully funny story. dancing

I have seen MANY who have blacked out and even almost died and nary a one has told me they thought they died. Perhaps they were unconscious and didn't know it.

quote:
Originally in the Vail Daily: He says he heard a second voice command him to put his boots on the beast's horns and push away.

A little advice like "don't shoot that buffalo with an arrow" before the fact would have been helpful.

Originally in the Vail Daily:

Elephant gun cartridges are six inches long.

I was thinking 50 BMG they they're less than 5.5 inches long. Maybe 20mm cannon?

Originally in the Vail Daily: “Larry, are you all right?” the outfitter screamed.

Trotter is an Eagle Scout and has all kinds of first aid training. He was a pre-medical student. He knew the answer.

“I don't think so!” he answered.

I'm pretty sure Trotter is also a rocket scientist.

quote:
Originally in the Vail Daily: Ten people witnessed it and said he did exactly the right things at exactly the right times.

Obviously.

quote:
Originally in the Vail Daily: “The thing is, I was only doing what I was being told,” Trotter said.

OK.

quote:
Originally in the Vail Daily: After hours of ambulance and plane rides, two of the best doctors in Africa were unable to put Trotter back together. He spent five hours in surgery in Capetown and came out with titanium plates and eight screws.

He called his friend, who he had given medical power of attorney and they arranged for an emergency seat on a flight back to the United States. The Steadman Clinic shoulder specialist Dr. Peter Millett went to work on him, removed all the hardware installed in Capetown and reconstructed Trotter's shoulder. It took about four hours.

“I'm back here under the best care in the world. You don't realize it until you don't have it,” Trotter said.

Yea. Those slackers in Cape Town. And where was the first heart transplant done?

Strange that, I wonder why so many injured PHs, clients, serious burn victims and assorted other ills and bodily woes come to SA to be put back on the road [if humanly possible] to health. I do know that SA's public health system is in need of an extended stay in ICU, but the private health care facilities are pretty good. Well at least it seems as though someone knew how to work a screw-driver. Roll Eyes

This is a perfect example of why some people should find something else to do rather than hunt dangerous game.

And the same goes for the so called PHs who were with him.

How the hell no one was able to kill the buffalo when it charged from 40 yards?

There is a mentioned of a ninth bullet being fired, what had happened to the other 8?

Oh, and that is a CAPE buffalo, NOT a water buffalo.

Glad he survived.

Vail Colorado fits with The Hamptons, San Francsico and other liberal vanity spots-

This would be considered calm sane reportage there.

A lucky escape. All the God bothering nonsense spoils the story for me.

Nothing miraculous about it - not all animal attacks or car crashes are fatal, just a statistic.

If it were all down to angels, why didn't one tell the buff to leave him alone and scoot in the other direction?

Okay...

"Back at the hunting lodge, after it was over, the guides ran a battery down in the video player watching the attack over and over. Trotter watched it three times, then had four or five filet mignon steaks from the beast that tried to kill him."

This guy had broken bones, but watched the video and ate five steaks? Wow.

One error I picked up on is the chap was using 6-inch long elephant cartridges. Well, he should have been using buffalo cartridges. Maybe that is why his 4 (count 'em, 4!) PHs didn't kill the buff easily as they, too, had the wrong cartridges.

It seems to me the BS meter is equally at fault with the hunter and the writer.

This is better than the Olympics!
Cheers, all,
