I do not know if it is me but I have grown tired of hunting shows including the African ones. Think about it they are really the same show. Stalk - shoot - picture.

I may be the only one but I crave more information. What did the hunter do to prepare for the hunt, what gun is being used, what scope, magnification, what caliber , what round, why that round, what range was the weapon sighted in at? Why are they using that gun or scope or magnification....

Tell me something about the animal; how many sub species, the difference in that subspecies, unique characteristics, what to look for in a good trophy, populations, demographics, where else can you hunt for them or only in country x, what is the difference in animals found in x or y. Where are some of the largest or most plentiful numbers found, breeding....

Then include the hunt. Now that is a show that I will enjoy.

Agreed that most are trash

Most of the shows are more advertisement than showing the skills of the PH or the hunter. I'm with you, the shows need to be more informative.

As long as they are packaged In half hour time slots with lots of commercials plus product placement, thats's what we'll get. A few introductions, commercial, stalk and shoot, commercial, repeat if necessary. A one hour format with time for substance would be preferred.

Totally agree. I really hate the one's with stupid soundtrack and hunters posing behind dead animal telling us about what we just saw.

This is why I appreciate Saeed's generous offers to give away his videos. They, more than any half-hour show, give you a feel for what being there is like. It ain't all running and gunning, fist-pumping-woo-hooing... sometimes it's just vultures eating the offal. But, you get what you get and I hope to see more from Saeed's latest hunt.

I agree completely about Saaed's DVDs. They show so much more, and in my limited African experience, exactly the ways that I saw it. They are very rich in conveying the feeling of being there.

Larry Shores has put together a couple of nice DVDs, too, that bear watching.

We of course do not get the TV hunting shows here in Japan, but I can understand how they are scripted. If they weren't, though, some of you would be like the guy in an SCI chapter meeting in Chicago some years back. The speaker was going on about the ethnology, ecology, etc. of some region and at a back table he muttered "If I don't see a dead animal in two minutes, I'm leaving."

The myriad of bow hunting white tail T.V. shows nearly drives me insane. And it seems that every T.V. bow hunter has to have a trophy bow hunting wife to boot. Hear, hear to Saeed's videos!

The purpose of the shows is not to teach or inform. The purpose is to hold the attention of a certain number of consumers in order to make money off the advertisement or name branding. That is how the people get paid.
This is not a public service.
If enough people watch to satisfy the sales people, the show stays the same. It's all about the dollar people, if they could sell more camo, scopes, hunts etc by providing something different they would.
We then find us back where we have always been, in that if you don't like it do not watch nor buy the products.

SG, you said that correctly. I don't understand the constant bitching about the business aspect of our sport. It seems that we give the outfitters a pass on promotion, (unless it's Mark Sullivan ), but everyone else is a sell out? Folks, for us to enjoy our sport, there is a necessary business aspect to it. Without the various manufacturers, what weapon would we shoot? Not everyone can take a piece of scrap metal and produce a fine gun like Bailey Bradshaw or Butch Searcy. Not all can mix their own powders, produce primers, make arrows, broadheads, etc, etc. Someone must do it for us and producing those items incurs a financial cost. Those costs are offset by promoting the products in hopes that enough units will be sold to make a profit so that the people in the business not only get to enjoy the sport the way we all do, but feed their family in the process!

Except for the privileged few, we all engage in some sort of activity in hopes of receiving enough capital to take care of our responsibilities and provide some fun to our lives as well. Maybe its because to many, hunting is a spiritual endeavor rather than a profit motive. That is understandable, but why continue to begrudge the guys who see it differently and actually work in the hunting industry. Without them, we would be grinding and polishing our own glass in hopes of building our home made binocular, etc.

The hunting shows simply are sponsored by people and companies that produce the goods and services that we use to recreate and have fun. I think the idea is that we get to vicariously ENJOY watching our sport being pursued in between the times we are fortunate enough to enjoy it firsthand!

If the price of that enjoyment is seeing a guy with a sticker on his gun, so what? Do we stop watching football, baseball, golf, etc, due to the fact that the game is stopped periodically so that a current or former player can appear briefly to shill for "Rent-A-Center", "Ford", "Nike", or something of that nature?

Bottom line is if you don't enjoy the hunting shows, watch "Law and Order", a movie, turn off the tube and do something else, or whatever trips your trigger. It just isn't worth the constant bickering, IMO.

Saeed, thanks , I did receive a copy. I am hoping that in order to alleviate my withdrawal symptoms, I could, ahead of everyone else, assure myself of a copy of the next edition of unadulterated [aside from that German Fellow, Walter ] hunting joy.

I vote Saeed best hunting show producer, actor, director, with a cast of thousands! staring Saeed El slayer of maybe buffalo.

My concern is not commercialism although it may be tacky at times or overdone. I guess I am looking for the information of a national geographic or a documentary level with the hunting scenes. I want to learn more than just be entertained and to a minimal degree some do that but very little

Actually, that isn't altogether impossible. I haven't received a copy of Saeed's videos either, and was kinda embarrassed to keep asking. You Americans would be ASTONISHED (and probably disgusted) at what we aren't allowed to have and/or do up here.

Um, how would a guy go about getting a copy of Saeed's DVD? Other than asking reeeeely nicely?

This post has got me thinking about when I quit watching 20 minutes of advertising hiding behind 3 minutes of staged hunting.

After enjoying Saeed's DVD's, I lost all interest in the hunts shown on TV. Really looking forward to this years hunt.

Yall are gonna get lectured by Dave Fulson on how hard and expensive it is to produce a show on African hunting and how we should shut up, be thankful, put on our Ruger hats, stick a decal on our TVs, and watch the show.

9 minutes of hunting, 21 minutes of commercials about sums it up.

My brother put it a good way, he said he sat down to watch a half hour of commercials and kept getting interrupted by the Ted Nugent show.

Fact is, these show provide a vital service to our hunting cause...I think that some of us (me included) are "Old hands" at the game and thus, are a bit bored with the current formats out there.

But, I personally know quite a few show producers and they are always paying attention to this kind of feedback. Rest assured that if enough audience expresses their desires these guys will respond!

Stay tuned (pun intended!! LOL)

its really funny but you can really get your PH going if you remind him that shooting (name your target) only takes half an hour on TV

And by the way it would be really nice if the audio was better on Saeed's videos. I love them but sometimes its hard to hear. Just my opinion

I'm also a fan of Saeed's videos. It's so nice to see how the small things of life on safari such as birds and trees are enjoyed and get so much attention and such a pleasure to not see all that childish high fiving and cheerleader squealing etc.

He quietly celebrates the hunt in a dignified manner rather than the kill in a childish manner and (IMO) that's just how it should be.

Others I particularly enjoy are the Boddington collection.

Duckear, Dave and others like him do this for a living, nuff said! I hope you understand .
