First, I am of the opinion that crowns are critical, and have some opinions as to how they should look.

building (assembling, really) two clones of the dpms mk 12/spr...

the barrels arrived with a clean, but flat, crown. These will be under a comp, so damage is at a very low risk...

however, I have always had good experience with a recessed target crown, and the barrels have enough meat there to make good crowns...

so, I am not certain, but I am favoring sticking them in my lathe and recutting them

opinions? experience?

btw, barrels are dpms 18" stainless/black teflon coated 1:8 and look GREAT internally .. of course, they are wilson barrels

Jeff, if you are confident that your crowning jobs are top notch, then I would go ahead and re-crown it. That way you will have peace of mind which is important.

We re-crowned them. Both are going to be submoa as both delivered sub Moa 3 shot groups with Hornady training ammo within their first 50 rounds. No breakin other than slow pace of fire. We ran out time to try hand loads and match loads. High expectations And my wife and my SIL are tickled as I had them do most of the build unde close supervision

Not for me. Once I sight them in, these aren't mine. Family guns to get some people shooting Truthfully I was bored with ar's after shooting them in high school. However my r25 delivers the mail for hogs with night vision.

Hopefully I will only be asked to clean them once in awhile. But the little buggers do shoot well

I live my big bore bolt guns and consider a 308 to be slightly heavier than a 223 plunked. Heh

that came over a little sh!theadish, from me.

I meant to say that these were built as gifts for the family, for people that will really enjoy them, and will likely have a lifetime of range trips with them

and after i got them sighted in, its unlikely that i will be ALLOWED to shoot them Smiler

I use a range rod in the muzzle & dial in just like I am going to cut a chamber.

Try to look unimportant. Your enemy might be low on ammo.
