I have noticed bolt smears on the case heads of my 375/284 and have read this being caused by bolt trying rip the case out while it is still under the affect of chamber pressure indicating a possible need for longer gas tube so in looking at a standard gas block it seems like i can install it 180 from normal and the gas port will be blocked

First post; welcome to the forum! This is probably a gunsmithing question. Good round though; I assume you are talking about an AR-10 or non ArmaLite clone? You want to move the gas block forward; OK. 180 from normal? What does that mean?

yes, if you spun the gas block 180degs, it would likely turn off the gas, making your rifle a manual - though if you turned it 180, and it's a "normal" split, you might be venting if you are open to the thought, buying an adjustable gas block might be a better solution, as you can then tune the amount of gas, resulting in a functional semi. then again, with a neat wildcat, your pressures may be too high for an autoloader, and you might have to tune your load/powder to work within platform constraints opinions vary band of bubbas and STC hunting Club Information on Ammoguide about the416AR, 458AR, 470AR, 500AR What is an AR round? Sorry all I have never been the best at verbal communication I don’t intend to spin the block 180 or upside down The gas hole is not in the center of the length so if you take it off the barrel and put it back on front end of block on first then the vertical gas hole will not be in line with barrel port effectively closing it Now you pass your new longer gas tube right on through that block ending at the new block 2or3” farther out Delay the impulse That part has been proven This is just the method I envisioned for using a longer tube without having to buy a new barrel The 284 win case for a wildcat is not as big problem as when I start using rum brass for the cartridge in 375 or bigger bullet I already have the bcg and barrel extension for a 375 b&m

Hope i dont step on any toes but I dont think the same person built the stock that mucked up that tube That stock looks really nice from here The shape of the tube might have been better as a gentle spiral wrap around the barrel Easier than rapid bends Just my opinion
