The rifle was a Mauser 98 sporter. Here's a link.

The Oberndorf Sporter is without a doubt a fine rifle and my favorite to collect. Never have liked the butter knife handle that much.

Jon Speed's book is an excellent reference if you are interested in collecting the Oberndorf Sporter.

Try to look unimportant. Your enemy might be low on ammo.

I have not seen the movie, but weren't they also using guns like the early Winchester Self Loaders in it?

Even the rocks don't last forever.

If I remember right I think I saw some guards using the Winchester auto 401 . I'm not sure what the proper model name is or even if I have the cartridge right. I'm sure someone knows what I'm talking about. I can remember reading an article somewhere about a rebuild on one and in the article the author said that the win auto was used by prison guards.
There are some great guns in the movie and it looks from my untrained eye that they tried to get it right.

The Winchester autoloader was a model 1907 in .351 Winchester Self-loading. It was the 1910 which was in the .401 WSL. I think both models were used by some police, guards, thugs of the period, etc.
