| I don't have my bluebook with me, but a section in the back provides what you're looking for. If I remember correctly, the barrel code (WI or WL)would indicate the month/year of manufacture. I can't remember if it's stamped when the barrel in manufactured or when the gun is assembled. Nevertheless, the month is based on the coding of B L A C K P O W D E R X, B being first month, X being twelth month. Therefore, W would mean your gun/barrel was manufactured in August, and the I or L will be your year code. Somebody out there look in the back of the Bluebook of Gun Values and fill in the blanks i've left here.
I suspect the L stands for 1964 based on your post. Good luck.

| I have a 700 .308 with a "C629..." serial number and it was made in late 1988 so Remington gave you good info.
