I was diagnosed with Bells Palsy about 4 weeks ago. This disease paralizes one half of the face completely, not unlike a stroke. One of the doctors prescribed a very heavy dosis of cortizone, which got me picking up weight like you cannot believe. I'm a big man already, but this was just incredible, I blew up like a balloon! We had clients right trough the last 4 weeks, but it became almost impossible to hunt for me, as my right I cannot blink and the medicine took the wind out of my sails. This resulted in a sort of depression and short temperedness......so I decided to do something about my state of mind!

I have been feeding bushpigs non stop now for 2 and a half years, give or take a couple of months, and three of the six stations is on my own property. The property is devided by two (what we call) mountains (and Americans call hills). I have fenced the front part to be a game farm dedicated to bow hunting, but have left the "back bit" (a wide valley of about 400acres) unfenced. This open area borders governement land of about 10,000acres that is also open.

Kudu, Bushbuck, Impala, Warthog and Bushpigs roam this area freely.

All my baitstations are trailcam monitored. I noticed this one saunder of pigs coming in to (what we have named) number 3 station very early, in daylight! The setup is a favorite of mine as the hide is about 4 meters of the ground in a Marula tree. I got in the hide at 16:00 and waited for about one hour when I heard to first piggies mooching around. At 17:30 this boar just stepped out of nowhere and went straight for the corn. A sow joined him a short while later and I filmed them for a little bit. My right eye was watering so much with tears of excitment, and I realised the time has come.

I slowly stood up and came to full draw. I struggled a bit with the powerdot on the new TruGlo sight I got at Cabelas in January, but eventualy settled the dot on the boar's shoulder. The follow through was good, and I could see the arrow hitting where I aimed. After waiting an hour (to see if other pigs would come in) I got out of the tree.
The 100gr. Slick Trick out of the 70lbs Matthews DXT at 18 yards made the tracking job easy and my pig was dead about 30yards from where he got the arrow.

Something interresting. I practised a lot at night with the new sight. I could shoot three arrows in an inch at 20 yards in the pitch black with the red light on the target. In that twilight just before dark I could not see where on the pig's shoulder the dot was. It was ok to see the pig, just not being able to pick the spot. I put this down to the small field of view that the sight allows, and I had to take my eye away from the sight and shoot with both eyes open like with an open sighted rifle. As I said allready, it worked out ok, but I am changing back to my old single pin sight.

Hoped the story was worth reading. I feel much better after this hunt, I can tell you that. Check out Pigs Unlimited on Facebook for trailcam pics and hunting reports!

Next on the menu is a big old Kudu bull or Bushbuck ram......cross your fingers on my behalf boys, please!

My brother in law had Bell's palsey years ago and it came and went with no lasting problems so you can probably rest your mind about it.

We set up 3D targets with glow sticks to simulate glowing eyes and do night time "coon hunts" to practice our night shooting. Everyone who tries it loves it and it's interesting to see how good we actually get shooting in the dark. We all shoot instinctivly but for some reason instinct seems to work better in the dark.

Nice hog thanks for telling us the story!

One of my buddies, BIG Al, got that Bells Palsey too. In his case it didn't last too long and he was back to completely normal(well..., normal for him Big Grin) in 3-4 months. It slowly got better.

Come to think of it, he also put some weight on.

BIG Al told me it was from WAY TOO MUCH Romance. Told him I didn't believe that. Then he said, "Have YOU ever had it???" rotflmo

Great Hunt Story! Seems like a whole lot of folks like the Slick Trick Preformance. And that is a nice report on the TruGlo Sight.

Continued good Hunting and clean 1-shot Kills.
