I like the feeder better. Is that how you guide hunters, to the nearest feeding trough? Wouldn't it have been easier to just put a halter on it and tether him to a fencepost?

That person "shot" a wildebeest, he didn't hunt it. Could be a new low in ethical harvesting game standards.

I would delete this post if it pertained to my operation. Got to be good for potential customers to see who not to book with.

But, that's just my take...

ISS I wanted to say the same thing but I've grown weary of being the "ethics cop." Imagine how many guys have "trophies" that came about like this? I'd rather go on a hunt and get less animals but take them by actually hunting but that's my opinion. Others are happy to take them any way they can, and maybe that's the only way this client can hunt especially if he doesn't know how to hunt.

I have zero problems with questioning shoots like this. It's about as challenging as going to a 3D shoot with all marked yardages.

It's about the challenge, not as much the results...

Yeah, color me less than impressed as well. And if that's what happens to the new Muzzy broadheads on a broadside shot, I'm less than impressed with those too!

Y'know , I've only been to Africa once so I'm pretty wet behind the ears. The blue wildebeest was my nemesis I tried everything to stalk and ambush them and I truly wanted one more than anything else. They were for me a very worthy opponent. I got busted once at about 600-700 yards while in full asat cammo, what great eyesite. I'm a lot happier having hunted like that than having shot one in this kind of manner.

But each to his own I suppose. Anyone want to come to Alberta for an Angus hunt? We have thousands of them and they are pretty wiley. We can stalk them easily, shoot them out of the pasture or over bait in their native habitat (the feedlot)

That's just sick. To call that 'hunting' is an insult, and posting it on youtube is not the smartest thing to do either as it puts ethical hunters in a bad light. Agree with calgarychef1, you might as well go to a feed lot and shoot some steers, I'm sure they've got some up there in Limpopo.

"A peculiar virtue in wildlife ethics is that the hunter ordinarily has no gallery to applaud or disapprove of his conduct. Whatever his acts, they are dictated by his own conscience, rather than by a mob of onlookers. It is difficult to exaggerate the importance of this fact."

This post clearly indicates that this is a non-bowhunter who has absolutely no idea what he is talking about. Idiots like this drive me nuts. I have no problem with the shot or the setup. I guess some think it's a lot better to drive around in a truck, find one, and shoot it at 250 yards. This type of in-fighting spoils hunting for all of us.

If you watch the Outdoor channel you will see loads of animals shot near feeders or on feed that was scattered in the field or on a road. It is a very popular and heavily used method. Here in AZ most Whitetail and a lot of Elk are shot on water holes. Since water in the desert is scarce does that make it bait or less of a hunt?

What I would like to know is when is someone going to do something about those cheating, unethical crocodiles using water holes and stream crossings as hunting sites? I mean, it just isn't fair to the game animals, ya know?

Looks pretty much like any deer camp in Texas,,whether hunting with bow or gun.Rich,,,,have you every hunted with a bow? If I remember right you shoot a Mathews I know you hunt with big bores, I don't throw stones at you because you stalked an animal and got with in gun range,, wow,, that is hard to do,,,I like doing it both ways,, you hunting ethics cops need to look in the mirror...Antelope out west over water holes, elk over water holes? riding around in land rover looking for fresh spoor? Corn feeders in the south, Food plots planted? Whats the difference.??? Everyone can choose for himself.

silentt,

Two things for you to contemplate.

1. it's not a drive for you (the mental illness thing), it's a six-inch putt.

2. I bought my first compound in 1976, and killed a nice Whitetail with it. I doubt you were old enough to start kicking slats out of your cradle to get mom to come in and change your diapers. I think I have Carhartts older than you are.

I have killed antelope, mule deer and Elk here in Idaho with compound bows over the years; and one Elk and a muley with my Howard Hill Tembo Longbow.

I do NOT:

a. shoot over planted food
b. shoot animals in confinement.
c. bait game animals.
d. put out food or mineral blocks or use any other form of attractant for game animals. No doe pee here.
e. use game cams or any other form of technology past a scoped firearm or a bow with sights. I'll be sixty-one next month and my eyes have dictated that. Believe me, nothing would make me happier than having 20-15 eyesight again.

You cannot make it a truly "Fair Chase Hunt". If you wear clothes you're beyond that. The idea is to make the hunt as close to even odds as you can. I like to think I earned the game animals I hunted. Every hunt I have had has started with tracks...

I guess you have to look in the mirror and ask yourself "Do I want to go hunting, or just go kill something?".

For someone who claims to be an archery old hand, it's pretty obvious you have no clue what you are talking about in several respects. The least is that muzzy's have vastly different practice blades (totally opposite design) than their hunting blades. It's funny you haven't commented on your ability to stalk up within gun range of animals. Reading another of your informative and expert posts i realized that only Mathews bows can kill water buff. Interesting.

And to top it all off, you decide to attack my age (34, and totally irrelevant) in your response instead of addressing how you have decided to attack a fellow hunter. If you didn't like the post of the video, move on. Don't be a thread crapper and spout about things you know nothing about.

Like I said, I have Carhartts older than you. They have probably been big game hunting more years and seen more big game killed than you as well. FYI, I went to the Archery Shop by the house in town today and looked at Muzzys. You need to read the back of the package.

I understand that at 34 you have a lot more big game hunting experience living in Cass County, Missouri, than someone who has lived and hunted Elk and Black Bear, etc in Idaho since 1978. You were about three years old then. I stalked and killed my first resident Elk here in 1979. Got a spring Black Bear, Turkey, Antelope and a Muley buck. What I did was hunt, and scout, and run the high country about eight months a year. It's why I moved to Idaho in 1978.

If all of my hunts had been filmed you would see consistent stalking and killing tactics.

Is a water buffalo the best you can do for an avatar? I seen grannies milking those things in Vietnam. I need to put my Cape Buffalo up.

Sprouts like you make me realize how lucky I am to live in Idaho instead of back east.

Grow up kid.

Regards,

Grandpa Rich

I am always interested in Oryx. If I hunted one here I could have all that delicious meat. I just am not sure about the hunt conditions there.

Our ideas about hunting VS shooting are a little apart. Did you find it a real challenge to find and stalk these guys? BTW; that one you shot is a monster! It would look really nice alongside the Gemsbok and Kudu and Waterbuck I got in RSA in April.

The wall would be pretty full with the Buff center, flanked by Kudu and Waterbuck on one side and the two Oryx/Gemsbok on the other.
I don't think we've talked, but I got really lucky. We went around a bend in the trail following some Kudu tracks and found a Caracal sitting in the trail licking himself. Missed him clean the first shot. PH says "oops, that's 220 not 140 yards...". Killed him clean with the second shot.

You are a waste of time. You still haven't directly answered why you have chosen to attack the original poster. I don't care how old you are or how many times you were caught pleasuring yourself in the closet with your sisters undergarments in 1954. And your hunt in RSA, was that all completely free range? No fences to be found? Anyhow, go back to the main forum as it's obvious you know nothing about archery.

Silent T,,,Rich likes to "provoke thought or discussion" or "stir poop" for us Bubbas. I have read his posts for years,, sometimes I agree with him,, many times watching his whiskers removed with pliers would be more fun. The one thing I can tell you about him is that he does have an "opinion" on everything,, and you won't change his mind, I use the forum to share information, to learn from others , to share what I have learned. I don't use it to tell others they are wrong or to judge them or how they hunt,, but that is just me. Rich has been on board here at AR for like four more months than me. He has over 11,000 posts,, I am at about 500. Like I said,, he has an opinion and he doesn't mind sharing it. Rich is just being Rich, I don't think he is ever trying to be mean, but when he stirs us up,, he has done what he set out to do. He likes to light the fuse and watch the fire storm. Right Rich?

It just aggravates me that a guy tries to post about things he doesn't know about. It would be like me going on a computer tech forum and bitching about the processors they are using. Doesn't make sense.

Nothing wrong with the hunt, maybe not the way I have done it. Can't see much difference in sitting over a waterhole in a treestand or in a blind for elk, antelope or deer here in Idaho. I have killed elk and deer coming out of alfalfa fields and when you are bow hunting you try to get the animal close to you. To each their own.

SilentT,

I was a bit curious about your high standards of personal conduct. Now I know.

Posting that garbage here about the girls underwear in the closet really does show you for what you are. It is amazing how often pedophiles and men with gender/transgender issues like yours try and transpose those sick thoughts and values in their minds onto other they disagree with on places like this. That anonymity lets them spew the sickness out and try to feel better about it by linking unknown others.

I am sorry for you, but I will have to decline your invitation into the sewer you call a brain. You have some serious issues about appropriate sexual scenarios you need to get some help with. Do you look at/download child porn frequently? I'd suggest taking a week or two off and seek psychiatric help.

I hope things get better for you.

silentt posts: "I don't care how old you are or how many times you were caught pleasuring yourself in the closet with your sister's undergarments in 1954..." and you think my response was "a bit unnecessary"? You did read his first, or did you just gloss over that?
I'd suggest two one hour intake interviews at a qualified Psychiatrist's Clinic and their report would mirrow my initial assessment pretty closely.

sickie boy,

feeders are a short step from just sticking the animal in a 20x20 corral or haltering it. The idea is not to see how easily and quickly you can transform a hunt into a shoot. Most 3D shoots in Idaho have tougher shots than this one.
