I just got my very first crossbow. What different methods does everyone use for cocking. I have had a bad lower back for years. My bow is 175lbs, even with the rope device its hard on my back. Any other techniques other than an expensive crank? I got the crossbow thinking it would be easier on my back than a regular bow. Perhaps i should just go with a 40lb recurve and be happy with that. I wanna fling arrows and lengthen my hunting season but I gotta protect my back also. Any advice is welcome!!!!

If the rope cocking is hurting your back, you really don't have any other option than to get the crank. Look at it this way though, it's a one time purchase that'll probably outlast you!

And if you look online, you might be able to find one for less than MSRP....
