Bought one this spring, blued. The nicer model with fancy wood.
Major feeding problems with factory ammo and reloads. Never even shot it.
The carrier regularly failed to lift the cartridge for chambering. Furthermore sometimes the loading gate would pop out and stick outside the reciever at about a 30 degree angle and stay there.
I went back the next day and worked my way up to the manager and he gave me a refund. He said he has seen it before with these rifles and doesn't know why the company continues to carry them. They had 2. Haven't seen either on the shelf since.
The next day bought a 1886 lightweight instead.
Flawless functioning and accurate.
Glad the manager took care of me.

Just my personal experience for what it's worth.

Bought one of the nicer case colored ones at Cabelas. It would not feed popping the shells as they came from the tubular magazine. Spent quite a bit and after two gunsmiths, it feeds and extracts ok. Would not recommend this rifle.

Thanks for the information. I was looking close at these, I'll just save a bit longer and buy another Turnbull 86.

It is a shame that the manufacturer cannot make the rifles function as well as they look.

Jeff,
From what I have read about these rifles, the feeding problems can be cured by a good leveraction gunsmith.
Therefore, if you want a pretty .450 AK, you could do a package deal with the smith that makes it a 450 AK. You would then have a pretty and effective weapon.

Bringing this topic back up,
Anyone tried guns made by Chiappa?
The RidgeRunner looks pretty slick, are these made by the same guys as the Pedersolli?

The Pedersoli 1886 looks nice, but I don´t think it was meant to bring a NIB gun right down to a gunsmith for a tire-check.. Big Grin

Do some searching and find a nice Browning '86/45/70 and it's good to go from the outset, very much equal if not better than the original versions.

I would also suggest a Browning 86 or 71, they work and they are very accurate as a rule.

Bad Ass,
Looks like a beauty, please let us know how the gun works out for you,I like the pistol grip shotgun stock,if Winchester would put this style of stock on their guns,I know I would not be looking elsewhere.

New rifle arrived at the dealer yesterday, wow! what a brute at 10 lbs. The wood to metal finish was perfect and the trigger breaks at about 3lbs - anmost target quality! Cool

BAW,
That 10 pounder will come in handy if you shoot much heavy stuff. Smiler
You may also notice the weight if you do much stalking with it. Frowner

Cr,
I think the 26" barrel models all come in close to 10 lbs? How heavy is your 45/90?

9.5 pounds unloaded.
It is a TD with straight stock and no pistol grip. Not as fancy as some, but a shooter.

My Winchester/Miroku 1886 weighs in at 9.5 lbs. empty. It has a 26 inch octagonal barrel. The weight is nice when shooting hot loads.

With max loads do you gentlemen find that the lever stings a little?

Sitting down or standing up? Wink

In my Miroku 1886 .45-90, the hottest loads have been 300 grains at 2600 fps and 450 grains at 2150. Both are best shot standing up.
Factory 300 and 400 grain hunting loads are pleasant to shoot at the bench or standing.

In fact one of my favorite factory loads is 45 -70 300 grain Winchester with Nosler PP bullets at about 1850 fps; they are devastating on medium game and leopards (at 2200 fps).
