Steve Ahrenberg gets credit for the fact we even went on this trip. Steve discussed the idea of Joyce and I joining him starting 4 or 5 years ago. The timing just never worked out until this year.
Joyce and I started on a mega road trip to the lower 48 on August 28th and that made it possible for us to plan to be in the Miami area at the proper time to fly from Miami to Manaus, Brazil to start this adventure.
I've talked with Steve many time on the phone over the last 8 years or so but we have never had the opportunity to meet until now. I'll sum it up in two words ------- GREAT GUY!!
After a couple days of exploring tourist sights in Manaus we boarded a Cessna 208 (Caravan) on amphibs and flew a little over one hour into the Rio Travessao. Yes folks, this is remote.
The stilted cabins on on an island in the middle of the river and quite comfortable with marginal A/C, an oscillating fan, and a wonderful view of the river.
The average day starts with a 0600 breakfast. You then pack your own lunch from food provided, and many, many liters of water, and some beer or soda if you wish. It's very hot and humid and we Alaskans did have a hard time with the heat. Joyce and I would drink 4 two liter bottle of water for each 12 hour day fishing.
The water is dark tannic and this prevents mosquitos form breeding. I never saw a single mosquito on the trip.
Joyce fished hard and caught Peacocks, Wolffish, three different types of catfish including the sought after Piraiba, and tons and tons of Black Piranha.
Definitely a fun trip that I would consider again.
Steve, his fishing partner Ralph, Joyce and I also spiked out one night far up river. Next time we would ditch the oven of a tent and just use a hammock.

Super happy to share this special place with others. It really cannot be described in words. You must see it with your own eyes and try to take it all in, without sensory overload.
The remote camp was fun. The dinner was lots of fun.

Steve.......Frostbit makes a good point though. Canadians and Alaskans tend to melt down into a pool of sweat in those temperatures. I am assuming we are talking 88F with 123% humidity and no wind?

You got it right. The temp isn't bad but that humidity, whew!!
I'm a Arizonan and used to heat in the 110's. This is different, not only the humidity but the angle of the sun in the sky is direct and the shortest distance through the atmosphere.
The feeling of UV is obvious. I would call it "intensity."
As you said, when there are no cloud, no wind, it is pretty uncomfortable. But, knowing there is A/C waiting for you at the end of the day, you can deal with a lot.
To me, the fishing makes it all worth while. These waters are fertile for world record size fishes of 8-9 species. A guy named Russell Jensen, an Acute Angling client has/had 7 or 8 record in these exact waters.
I believe I have hooked (twice) the record Redtail. I hooked it last year and got a short glimpse, this year same exact spot in a vary small side creek, nearly spooled my heavy rig and broke the line in the rocks.

Just so you guys understand, My fishing partner, Ralph, who is not an AR member hooked one, last evening, last 30 minutes of light.
This fish was obviously a giant from the word go. It made long, LONG hard and deep runs. We were on this fish 30-40 minutes. The water in this hole is up to 80 feet deep. Ralph eventually got it up next to the boat.
Seeing this fish was one of the real giants, we wanted to go to the beach for pictures. Its a bit of a goat rope handling these things with care. They are nearly spent when the come up, leaving nothing in the fight.
In any case, I was busy handling and positioning the fish in waist deep water, handed it off to Ralph. I grab his camera, click..click...click, time to release. The fish was 220-250#
I never got a photo 
Wellington, the camp manager was there waiting for someone to hook up a big one. He had a drone on the beach. He flew the drone right over our head the entire fight. he got the entire thing, including the picture session and the release.

How do you and Joyce do Thanksgiving in the Orca? We have gone to a place out in the Arizona desert for 30 years. Its called Alamo lake.
We didn't go this year for the first time. We were pretty sure our new cabin in the mountains was going to be done. Missed it by 10 days. So, we are at home.

As I'm sure you're well aware of, there seems to be a "Happy Hour" that last several time longer than advertised.
You can't generally pick your neighbor, but you can sure pack your stuff and leave the neighborhood!
Some of our best vacation times were in RV parks. there was a pancakes breakfast at a place that the sign said "Clothing Optional" I really didn't want pancakes that bad. Lots of good natured retirees.
