I love Zimbabwe. An animal turns into a jerk, and he gets turned into meat.

I have never posted this video before, just now finished the editing. There are some really cool Lake Kariba scenes in the opening of this video, besides the giant Bushbuck that shows up in the opening shots. This thing is giant! The video is worth it to see the Bushbuck alone.

Anyway, I was hunting Hippo and the villagers told us about a Hippo turning over boats as the fishermen were coming in at the end of the day.

I didn't have a professional videographer with me, so I asked the PH's son to film the Hippo shot. I asked him, "Please try not to flinch at the shot."

I know, it's hard to not flinch, he did a good enough job.

Enjoy the video. And please, subscribe. I'm editing a pile of footage into very nice little short videos, mostly African variety. And I am returning to Botswana and South Africa this year to do some more filming.

Thanks, and enjoy! It is uploaded in 1080 HD, so make sure you select HD to enjoy the Croc, Hippo and Bushbuck scenes.

You are right, that was a "yuge" bushbuck!

Always good to be in the right place at the right time with that Hippo!

We had to hunt out of the boat, since he hung out 150 yards or more from shore. First morning, swells were coming in from off a big wide portion of Lake Kariba, so it was always a gentle up and down, very tough to stay on target.

That evening, the wind picked up, but it was coming from the shoreline out, so, no big swells to deal with.

Nice work Wendell. Have to respect the precision required for a shot on a hippo or a croc.

I used my manfrotto tripod for the rifle rest. It was rock solid. Snipers use it with a "Hog Saddle"? I think that is what it is called. I didn't know this until I came back. I thought I had come up with the coolest idea! No, those guys in the middle east beat me to it.

Anyway, a good solid heavy camera tripod makes a super rest. Put it on top of the beer cooler and your butt on another beer cooler and shoot away!

Sounds like a "solid" adaptation to the situation!

Way to hang in there to make the shot from a rocking boat.

"Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading" - Thomas Jefferson

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......

"If you're being chased by a Lion, you don't have to be faster than the Lion, you just have to be faster than the person next to you."
