My dad and I just returned from 14 days hunting in Namibia with Vaughan Fulton of Fulton Classic Safaris. To say we had a great time would be the understatement of the century. Vaughan left us wanting for nothing - this hunt will easily go down in my life's history as one of my best experiences. First we hunted Farm Felseneck near Okahandja, where we pursued impala. My dad took a beautiful ram of about 23.5" or so. I, unfortunately, fumbled my shot and was unable to recover the ram - not what I had in mind for my first African animal. Vaughan was sympathetic and wouldn't let me take it too hard. The folks at Felseneck were wonderful - we left wishing for more time there. After chasing impala, we traveled north to Vaughan's concession near Etosha park. There I took a mountain zebra, two spingbok, a gemsbok, and a kudu. My dad took a springbok, zebra, and kudu. I'll tell you one thing, kudu hunting in no walk in the park. We hiked some tough country for our animals. But what a great time! Vaughan's camp is simply awesome - it's everything an African bush camp should be (at least in my novice opinion). There is no running water or electricity, but the staff makes sure that all your needs are taken care of. There is a steady supply of warm shower water each evening, charged batteries for lighting your tent, and the most mouth-watering food I've had the pleasure of eating. The camp chef (not cook, that doesn't do her justice) Sarah creates some divine dishes. Simply wonderful! We tasted all the local game and were delighted with the wonderful flavors. Though zebra is quite tasty, my favorite is definitely springbok. To round out our hunt, we returned south to hunt another property for warthog and red hartebeest. Here Dad and I each took a nice hartebeest bull and my dad killed a real nice warthog. We didn't stay at Mecklenburg, but during the short amount of time we were there we were well taken care of. Game is almost too plentiful (hard to stalk a hartebeest when hogs and gemsbok get in the way), but hunting was no easy task. Hartebeest start running when they spot you and don't wait around! Luckily, there were a bunch and stalk opportunities seemed to be around every corner. I know, I know - Pictures. I haven't had time to process many of them yet, but they are coming. I should have some digitals ready by week's end. Suffice it to say that Vaughan will make sure your safari is everything you wish it to be. He basically rolled out the red carpet for us. I heartily encourage anyone here in search of a true wilderness experience to contact Vaughan and book a plains game hunt. You'll not be disappointed. The accomodations are comfortable, the staff is amazingly adept at all facets of safari life (camp care, tracking, etc.), and Vaughan goes to any practical length to ensure your hunt is a rewarding and fulfilling experience. Quite simply, you can't go wrong. | ||
