How lucky that the damage was minimal, so they report, even though from what I see on the tube it looks pretty bad to me. My prayers, as well, to the people of Chile.

Thank you for your good wishes.
Althoug the country is well prepared for this kind of catastropher , this one has affected about 70% of the population . Every minute the toll rises, the costal cities has suffer from the tsunamis. Many people ,including friends and its families has disappeared , swallowed by the sea. To have an idea , some aftershocks -there has been dozens - have had bigger magnitude (force) than the one that hit Haiti.
Anyhow I am confident in our capacity to recover. Thank God , I have been very lucky , no close relative have been injured . Damaged property can be replaced or fixed.
I have been able to comunicate with a couple of friends in hunting lodges in the south and they are working normally . The rut has started and game is well fed , after a rainy season that has produced very good grass.

Thank you Martin.
I am still without electrical power, I am ¨hanged " at this time to a neighbor house.
I have just been able to see some TV. The devastation is higher than I expected. Many new public edification has been destroyed, many of them hospitals, Argentina is sending three mobile hospitals that are in great need.
I have planned to go south on march 15 on vacation to stalk some deer and fish trout, but I think that due to my job, I would not be able to go .

Hi pulki.
From my point of view this will be very complicated for some time.
On TV looks very bad.
It will take time to restart comunications and energy.
Not to talk about order, as people get mad when they do not have what to do.
From here governemnt is sneding three movile hospitals and many help.
The best for you and your family and friends too.

Hi Martin.
Thanks again. I have just recieved good news from the south. A friend that owns a hunting lodge near Osorno has had no problem, he is working normally, in the days after the earthquake , his clients did hunt two very good trophy red stags ! An hour ago the person who is in charge of my farm in lake Huilipilún -25 km north of Villarica- , where the shock hit hard , was able to contact me -he walk a lot on foot to reach a place that has an operative fone -and told me my cabin is still afoot ,it survived ! The roads are being repaired , but the 8 hours that normally takes the 800 km trip could take more than 20 hours. In the next days fuel resupply in the highway will be normalized as will the fones, in that sector. I am still without electrical power . Although the management of the crisis by the goverment has been "uninspired" (what else can you expect from socialist burocrats ) I am confident we will prevail. I have been very lucky , I have survived the earthquakes of the years 1960, 1965, 1971, 1973 and 1985 , each one very destructive . Each time you thank God you are still alive and looks life in a very humble way.

pulki: I´m glad that you and your family didn´t suffer damages. A very impressive fact was discovered: the earthquake moved the Earth´s axis by 8 centimeters....Now it worries me that the disaster´s areas are under military control and people defends their properties with their arms. Again, weapons are the best survival tools one can imagine. Eeker

I finally heard from a friend in Talca, Chile.
I was really worried but all ok now..

Here is a copy of the e mail I received today...

Thank you for your worries and wishes. We are fine now, it was schocking at the first time, nothing happened to our home nor our family, we´ve been sleeping on the backyard until last night. We didin´t have water or electricity yesterday afternoon. Gladly we had the swimming pool with water before the earthquake, This is the hardest thing we´ve lived or seen. It´s impressive. Now everything seems to be normal, at least were we live, but in the west side of the city most of houses and buildings are completely down. I spoke to Ricardo this morning, He called me from Argentina and I told him that here in Chile there´s a lot of work to do, like building up again half of the country.

best regards
Carlos and Family

Hi Martin.
My family and me are OK. Thank you. While I am writing this there is another after shock .I arrived today from a short trip abroad , and was greeted by a series of quakes of great magnitude : 7.2 , 6.9 , 6 and 5 + . This one I think is force 5 . I am at my home and feel safe. Last week I was at an 16th floor and two schocks struck (force 6 and 5 +). I was SCARED.
My vacation days were granted, so I will try to reload some 308 , 30 R and 8x68s tomorrow. Then grab my hunting and fishing equip. and go south . I have been told that the red stag rut is in full swing in some places. I think this time I will not go to the cordilleras , It could be too risky to be there during a shock that will cause landslides and rock falling.
