Martin GodioAn axis deer
Hi,
Juan ask me to post a picture of some of trophies. Even thou this trophy is not strictly mine I consider it hunted by me. I will try to explain why.
I was guiding this hunter some years ago and he take a running shot with his rifle. The bullet broke one back leg of the deer and he get into some very thick bushes. It was a very difficult place to hunt with very limited visibility. You can only move on hands and knees. I get inside and the hunter waits outside while I try to push the deer in his direction.
I told him that, if I get a shot, I would take is as I did not want any unnecessary suffering.
After a long time moving inch by inch on hands and knees, I saw the deer coming my way. As it pass close, I fire. The bullet went through its lungs with not much effect. So as the deer start again I put another bullet though the shoulder that stops it.
Even thou it have only one leg broken it was suffering and we had to finished it.
I was using my Ruger Super BlackHawk Hunter .44 Mag., the ammo was the classical Keith 240 gn SWC with 20.5 gn of 2400. Then change to 308gn WFN with much better effect.
Thanks
Martin

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......
