I recognize that this is a South American hunting thread, and I post here because it is here that most, if not all of my AR friends, "reside."

I am just back from my South African trip. I did not go this year with hunting as a primary objective. I went to visit friends I had not seen for many years and that worked very well. I should add that those friendships were made while hunting with them, and endured when they visited me here in my home.

The highlights of the trip were my visits to friends in Mpumalanga, KwaZulu Natal and Free State. I did get to hunt for three days, hunting
thanks to my friends who are professional hunters. One I will always remember is being guided by my friend Willem Koch, on his family estates in Free State. We hunted in the high country of the Drakensberg Mountains that crosses his property. I took two animals that I had long sought and greatly appreciated.

The Vaal Rhebok at 9,000 feet and the little Steenbok in the lower country just at dusk. The two boys in the steenbok photo are Willem's two sons, whose company I enjoyed very much.

The following photo was taken on high in the mountains, and is a favorite. Once Willem gets his website going again, I will post it.

I also spent some time in Durban with friends there and enjoyed that city and its environs.
Two notable places, uShaka Marine World in
Durban, and the ocean side community north of the city, Ballito Bay. I would like nothing more than to return to Ballito and rent a condo on the beach for a short spell. Maybe June...

Bill - welcome back and really glad to hear you had a wonderful time in RSA. Sometimes trips that are coined on seeing old friends and acquaintances turn out to be a real special thing. Congrats on two very nice trophies indeed.

Larry, if you or any of your pals are heading down that way bear in mind that I bought a cell phone.
One of those for which you buy and add minutes. Be glad to send it out for someone to use.

Bill - The old "buy a phone in Country" trick again. It worked for me in Argentina thanks to your sending me one to use from there. Thanks. Will keep it in mind, but haven't made definite plans for 2013 yet. Later.

Welcome back, Bill.

Your photos make me want to experience just one more trip down there ... which is what I said two or three trips ago.

I wish they were mine, two very fine lads. Respectful and a great help to their Dad on the farm.
