I watched a program the other night on animal planet about a British guy walking the length of the Amazon. Not a lot to do with hunting but a very interesting program. He started somewhere in the andes and traveled all the way to the beach. Defiantly worth watching.

I have walked in the foot prints of the elephant, listened to lion roar and met the buffalo on his turf. I shall never be the same.

I think I have read this book.

Quite interesting, apart from his silly anti-hunting rants.

I have also read, partly, a book by a woman walking to the North Pole.

I gave up reading it once she started making all the silly excuses about not wanting to shoot anything.

I love reading about adventurers, but sadly a lot of the ones produced nowadays are so full silly PC rubbish it stops being interesting.

From 1980 until 1991 I worked in the Peruvian jungle. Our main base Andoas, was located on the Rio Pastaza up near the Ecuador border. One day I received a call to go to Andoas to work on an outboard motor so away I went. When I got to the shop there were 2 German women, Catholic nuns. They could hardly speak English. They had traveled from Iquitos up the Amazon to Nauta. Then up the Maranon to the Pastaza and up that to Andoas. This was during the time of the Sendero Luminoso or Shinning Path terrorists.

Those women came alone across that jungle in a 14 foot boat with a 15 HP motor. The motor had sucked sand into the intake and was over heating a simple job to fix.

I don't know how far it is in days travel but it's quite a long distance.

If you want an adventure try to do what those women did. Quite a camping trip.

Regards, Keith
