The Jaguar must not have been hungry enough!

Peccary are fun to hunt with archery equipment, I've had them pop their teeth at me after catching scent

The pecaries are great warriors, with wonderfull tusk, but I think they has not enough strength to fight with the big jaguarete, the pig was lucky be found by a young cat. Next time it will be the feline breakfast.

In all fairness, pecaries aren't big either! That one definitely defended itself, got away with it, and then smartly got the hell out of there! Big Grin

The selection of a frontal attack gave clear indication that we were watching a juvenile jaguar at work, even if one failed to notice such, at first glance.

Nick,
That cat it's a kitty. Compare it with the size of the pig and there is not much difference.

A mature tom will kill that pig just smiling at him... Big Grin

Yes, Lorenzo, I realize it is a juvenile. Just making the point that its' foolish frontal attack also indicates such. Smiler

The jaguar is the world's third largest member of the cat family and it is said that power of its' jaws are second to none. Few carnivore have the ability to crush the shells of river turtles, red-foot and yellow-foot tortoises, etc. The muscles which power these jaws are large, much increasing the overall size of the head.

Indeed was a young cat, and so was said by the narrator who was the late Felix Rodriguez de la Fuente, a spaniard who I admire a lot and did a hell of documentaries with very little technology... In fact he was somewhat blamed for apparently prepare some shots (film shots Wink) in which some animals were used as a bait while he was hidden waiting for the predator in turn to attack ...

As usual, nobody cared about the scientific task he did, and his name was somewhat offended by these "horrified" antis who knew nothing about nature but "condemned the useless suffering of innocent animals"... he died in a chopper accident in the beginning of the 80s.

Felix Rodriguez de la Fuente was the one of the two men that lighted with strength my passion for the wild thumb
