Thats a tough one, but go talk to your United States Atty office for advice is a start. then contact the state dept, be prepared for the red tape. I could have helped you more at one time, but Ive been retired to long to be in the loop..I may be able to guide you some as you progress..Ive been thru this on a couple of occasions, It can be a tough place to be when it hits the fan..

I hope this case is resolved and your friends have been found safe. However, if they are still missing here are a few questions to consider:

1. Have the local authorities been informed?
2. Is it known where they were staying, and has that location been queried and security cameras reviewed?
3. Who else was on the trip, and have they been questioned?
4. Has there been an attempt to locate and backtrack any associated electronic devices?

These are just a very few basic questions from a longer list. I run a security consulting company and I have long been concerned about foreign tourists and business people traveling to Mexico.

My son wandered off the beaten trail in Playa and encountered several sketchy looking individuals who made it plain that he'd better go back. it's very easy to get yourself in Deep Shit in Mexico.

Sorry for the late update. They have been located and arrived back in the US Monday.

Idiots.

Fortunately that's the usual outcome, its the "it cant happen to me" syndrome and the fact that you can go 50 or more times and no problems. then up pops 51 and life is hell, like nothing imageable. The cartel is involved in the Mexican hunting business, hotel business, white slavery, trucking, air traffic and who knows whatever, Weve had that thread on AR by those who say all is fine because they went and no problem. I spent a good portion of my life raiding Heroin and coke labs and dealing with the Mexican federales and local police which are mostly corrupt and involved in the drug trade...The Cartel makes the Mafia look like "Jump spot jump"//
