Great Argentina Stag Hunt

This past March, I took a trip down to Argentina with my friend and booking agent Butch Manasse (Worldwide-Hunts.com) and some clients for Red Stag. The hunt was only $3,995 so I didn't expect a lot, but I figured it was a nice chance to visit with friends and maybe scratch a Red Stag off the Bucket List.

To say I was surprised is to put it mildly! We hunted at a ranch known as Los Molles in Santa Rosa. Los Molles is almost 60 square miles of unfenced fields, woods, and brush, and is home to many naturally breeding Red Stag of good size. This is a free-range hunt for sure, and is very similar to still hunting and stalking Whitetail Deer. You will see good stags every time you hunt, as well as a smattering of Black Buck, Scottish and 4-Horn Sheep, and an occasional Hog. The Red Stags below were not out of the ordinary...everyone in out party took one or two such animals during our hunt. Cull animals are also available at reduced cost. Some hunters took Stags with bow tackle, if that is of interest.

The accomodations were top-notch, with elegant dinners, daily barbeques for lunch, as as much breakfast as you could handle. We roomed in chalet-type buildings with 3-4 units per building.

The trophy fee for one Red Stag was included in the $3,995 hunt cost; the only extras being minimal license and tag costs, plus a flight from Buenos Aires to Santa Rosa; about $300 IIRC.

If you'd like an inexpensive, relaxing hunt for a great mount, give Butch a call.

Damn, who's that ugly SOB with that great looking stag?? Big Grin
Good stuff, Beibs! That is a great looking stag you took.

Any water buff there? I have been entertaining this hunt. I wouldn't mind doing a stag/buff trip.

Scotty, I thought about doing the same, and there was an absolutely HUGE Water Buff there, but unlike the Stags, the Buff seems a bit too "nurtured" for me. Most roam in a large fenced area of the ranch, but this bruiser was in his own "paddock". It didn't look sporting to me, although it would have made a great mount, for sure.

PS: Regarding the "Ugly SOB"...hey, God thought he did a pretty good job, but you can take it up personally with HIM on your Final Day :-)

I guess I was under the impression that the buff in Arg were all free ranging.. I have never hunted anywhere down there.

What did they offer a buff to you for? Just trying to get a feel as to what these types of hunts run.

A stag, buff, and a few days dove shooting.. That would be a nice vacation!

Scotty, I'm thinking about $3K for that really large one, maybe $2,500 normal. There are plenty of ranches down there that could accommodate your hunt for Stag, Buff, and Doves.

Nice free range stag.
Los Molles is a good place for fair chase hunting. We know them and they are very good people. Same for butch.
Congrats.
