Hello Nickudu
I think the red wolf must be the same one of this picture, called here in the north of our country (Argentina) Agurá Guazú, that means Big Dog in native Guaraní dialect.

The aguará fox is a beatiful animal. It's very shy and his voice at night in the bush can be scarying !!!

Very few sightings of it in my country, mostly in the north.

Is the biggest of the southamerican foxes.

In spanish the aguará is also known as lobo de crin (horse-hair wolf). It's completely protected.

Indeed is the Aguara Guazu (Chrysocyon brachyurus)... skinny, rather ungracefull, with long legs sort of dog/fox/wolf that has a rather black sort of mane along his back ... it is a very shy animal that might weight some 60 pounds, with some four feet long (including his tail) and near 3 feet tall ...

Supposedly near extinction, it has been object of unsubstantiated fears (as L wrote, his voice - usually hear only during the night - might be rather scarying), since in the popular narrative, is characterized as the "Lobizón"... this is a belief of presumably european origin, where the seventh son of a family, during the nights of full moon, becomes a wolf ...

Thanks once again for sharing these articles with us, Nick !!!

we know how these "experts" determine when an animal is "endangered" Roll Eyes ... almost ever in some "comfortable" office some one thousand miles away from that animal´s natural habitat and what is worst hardly without ever bother to learn something about its basic behaviour ... Eeker

Sometimes I do agree with certain given status, but generally they do very little at all to help wildlife CRYBABY ....
