On March 23rd I will be heading to San Martin de los Andes, to try my "this year`s opportunity" with the red stags ...

Seems to be a promising hunting trip Cool ... and the fact is that I will be returning to the Patagonia after an absence of almost five years ...

Martín: may Artemisa the Godess give you bonne chasse!. My friend Juan Carlos returned yesterday with three very good heads from Collunco....I think one of them nearing the 190 points. We should discuss the incoming arrival of our mutual friend Bill, I´ll phone or e mail you during this week.
Regards

Nick: when are you coming? I have a ton of old magazines for you, mainly Guns $ Ammo and Shooting times from the 70´s and 80´s, but I´m sure that you have all these. Most unfortunately, I also had much stuff from Outdoor Life in the 50´s. Hopelessly lost due to water...in an empty apartment. Ouch!.

Hi Nick !!

Just now I am still in the city of San Martin de los Andes, and will be returning to Buenos Aires on Tuesday 10th, but actually by this moment my hunt is over...

After being delayed for some days (mainly waiting for the rut to start), last week I finally managed to come to the Patagonia to hunt my deer... the hunting zone was as good as I could desire, but the rut was non existant by the time I was hunting (and still is) - and so pretty much the same were my chances to find a good trophy Frowner...

Actually I found some young deers but none of them qualified as a trophy ... so sadly I must admit that my hunting trip wasn´t quite succesfull, but I won´t deny that in fact I had a wonderful time Cool...

Nevertheless, I want to post some pics of the zone I was hunting in (perhaps they will make you desire to come this south some day in the near by future! Wink)... and of course one very special picture of the only real nice deer I could see this time... you will surely apreciate that I was quick enough to photograph him Big Grin!!

Will try to have my next oportunity with these beautiful stags on July - in a very different and more demanding type of hunting ...

Beautiful pictures Martín...and again, the reason for hunting is the hunt in itself, like you very well know. Congrats. By the way, the next 04/10 I´m meeting billinthewild in Salta and Av. de Mayo at 01.30 P.M. for lunch. You are of course invited.
Regards

Martin. What beautiful country you were in.
If I am there in July I will join you as a cook and skinner. It reminds me very much of the landscape near my home in Arizona's White mountains. I have also had several hunts that did not result in a trophy being taken. And on one, for moose, the country I was in was so beautiful I will remewmber it always. That was in northern Sasketchewan. wave

Hey Bill !!

That will be my pleasure !!
I will love to go hunting with you some day, hopefully soon !

In fact I will like to go back on July since I don`t want this to be my first year without harvesting a good red stag ... but who knows .. just recently I was talking with a friend who tried to convince me to go to La Pampa for a stag (at the time I am writing this, the rut is much better there) Wink .. in fact my main obstacle is to convince my wife to let me go again Roll Eyes

On April 10th I will be arriving to Buenos Aires - and will do my best to arrive in time to share that lunch with you and Ricardo ! Big Grincheers

I would love to hear more about those moose hunts ... thumb

Regards,

Beautiful pictures Martin. Such a diverse and attractive country you have. Don't be discouraged as to the lack of a trophy, as when it does come, it will be all the sweeter.
It's quite enough to be away, alone in good county, hearing only the sounds that were intended.

Highest Regards ... Nick

Hola Martín,

Excellent pictures, I love that region, by far my favorite.

Do not hesitate to came back in July, chasing stags in the snow is BY FAR the most exciting hunt you will ever have. I've done this many times, in fact, never hunted during the rut, except for one time in La Pampa, and won't do that again.

Stags deserves the best efforts a hunter can do, and the mountains plus snow is THE real challenge. Besides taht, you won't be disappointed, scenery plus good chances are going to be numerous and will make the bust hunt of your life. I'm positive.

Ok...I'm aware of controversy here Big Grin but hunting during the rut, is for lazy hunters...

Take the chances and go south.

Martín: I´ll try to lunch at the Hispano, which is in Salta and Rivadavia. Anyway, Bill returns in about a week to Buenos Aires and you could meet him after this Tuesday. By the way, happy birthday to Gustavo on that day.

Finnally I couldn´t be there as expected, Ricardo Frowner Mad

Would like to meet next week, when Bill returns from Juan´s ... BTW, April 19th is my birthday !

Gus, I concur with you that deer hunting in winter time is where true hunters are shown ... the weather is almost unbearable, to be in good shape is mandatory and a very good knowledge of your prey is needed ... but I also love hunting deers during the rut, as I love hunting boars in those lonely nights, as I like hunting javelinas in the deep forest, as I like hunting... well you know Wink!!
