With palpable excitement in the air and the adventure at its peak, we ventured into a remote estate deep within the Corrientes wilderness, in search of the majestic buffaloes. After a long and anticipatory journey, we arrived at our destination, only to discover that the gaucho who was supposed to meet us at the outpost had vanished, casting us into a moment of uncertainty.
However, determination and camaraderie compelled us to join forces with other local gauchos. United by a common goal, we set out to find the buffaloes hidden within the heart of the dense Corrientes forest. Hours passed, roughly four, as we traversed intricate terrains, alternating between the truck and vigorous footsteps on foot. Our eyes crossed paths with several younger specimens and females, but the true glory awaited further ahead.
And there, like a puzzle solved by nature itself, we finally caught sight of the king of the herd. An elderly buffalo, towering in stature and with horns that seemed to have defied the elements and time itself. The excitement grew as we followed the majestic creature for half an hour, through the dense virgin forest. Every step, every endurance, proved worthwhile as we emerged from the shadows of the woods and the buffalo outlined itself behind mounds of earth, relying on its strength to shield itself.
This was the moment we had awaited, the climax of a pursuit laden with perseverance. With earth mounds as allies, we approached stealthily and determinedly. With hearts beating in harmony, we peeked out, and there it was—the majestic buffalo just 25 meters away. It wasn't alone; other buffalo, young and accompanying, shared its space.
The tension mounted, for we knew time was limited. The leader of the herd was concealed behind its companions, a survival strategy that challenged our patience. Then, in a moment of stillness and opportunity, the leader separated. Action ensued, the responsibility fell upon Mark and his Mauser 458 .But destiny seemed intent on testing our tenacity once more; the shot missed.
Time turned into an urgent force, the buffalo couldn't escape. Seconds stretched, each heartbeat resonating determination. Steve, sensing the urgency of the situation, took his CZ 375 and aimed precisely. The sound reverberated through the air, and the buffalo responded with a mighty impact. Yet, defiant and resilient, the creature remained standing, defying gravity and our desire for immediate success.
The situation took an unexpected turn. The wounded and infuriated buffalo turned toward us, anger blazing in its eyes. Before we could react, it charged at us in a surge of rage and survival. Shots rang out in the clarity of the day—four precise hits from the CZ 375 and five breneke cartridges from my Mossberg 590. The buffalo came to an abrupt halt, struggling to stay on its feet as the determination in its eyes slowly faded.
Silence hung in the air, broken only by the heartbeat of those who had shared this feat. The buffalo, now at peace, stood as a trophy of perseverance and courage. With the satisfaction of having faced adversity and prevailed, we gazed upon the unfolding scene: a story etched in moments of tension and triumph, woven with the bravery of those who confronted a wild challenge in pursuit of the grandeur of nature.

Sadly on this hunt i injured one eye with a papirus on the previous day and couldnt be present during the DG situtation

I loved the story as I can relate to an enraged ancient wounded water buffalo beginning its charge from 10 meters. I had a Ruger #1 416 Rigby and my Uruguayan friend had a 300 Winchester mag in a Ruger 77.
