I think about doing the same every year......for me there is only one place....Argentina, and for me, the provinces of Patagonia, where it is warm but not too hot....

sure argentina is a very nice place! but i have heard Patagoia is very windy and could be as cold as sweden in some parts.
what kind of games are usually hunted in patagonia?
is the price of land or a little farm is low there?.

I AM NOT AN EXPERT ON THIS. GO TO GOOGLE AND DO SOME RESEARCH. FOR ME IT SUITS VERY WELL.

REMEMBER THAT PATAGONIA IS A VAST AREA AND WEATHER AND SEASONS WILL VARY DEPENDING UPON THE PROVINCE.

OTHERS WITH FAR MORE KNOWLEDGE THAN I WILL RESPOND AS WELL.

THANKS ANYWAY.
SURE THERE ARE PLENTY OF INFORMATION ON GOOGLE,, BUT NOTHING IS BETTER THAN ASKING LOCAL PEOPLE WITH GOOD KNOWLEDGE OF HUNTING AND THEIR OWN AREA, BUT IT SEEMS THERE ARE NONE OF THEM IN THIS PART OF FORUM WHICH CAN ANSWER TO THE QUESTIONS. UNLIKE OTHER PARTS OF ACCURATERELOADING FORUM. Frowner

yes: like my friend Billinthewild says, Patagonia is the place. Besides the landscape being one of the more beautiful in the world, it is a very big chunk of land and comprises many different terrains and opportunities. You may fish some of the biggest trout in the world and hunt red stags, wild boars, cougars in some areas, birds by the jillions and all the imported beasts, like the multihorned, scottish black face and other rams, mouflons in certain ranches. And what not.
Look for the La Pampa, Río Negro and Neuquén Provinces of Argentina.
Good luck

yes: it depends on your taste.I´m quite humble so with one and a half or two grands I can live well (owning a roof of course). Also a cheap car and not travelling too much.
Hunts in de luxe ranchs is excluded.

Yes..........my wife and I have been thinking the same thing. A break from Canadian winters might be nice, but there has to be hunting to do.

We were thinking more about Paraguay or Uruguay, rather than Argentina. Information is hard to get however. Most websites are in Spanish of course and it is hard to find anyone that will give you the time of day.

I have tried talking to outfitters, most seem to based out of the US, but they will not give you the time of day. When I have tried to get info out of locally owned outfits, I either do not get an answer or they just want to sell me a hunt. LOL

Good luck in your quest. If we find something we want it to be very rural......remote even. I had always entertained the thought of trying to work for an outfitter down there, since I have been guiding/outfitting in Canada for over 30 years, but I have not gotten too far with that either.

Let me know how it works out for you.

i have tried in vain too. there are some other countries like BELIZE ,COSTA RICA with stabil political situation too, but getting information is nearly impossible and traveling to each and one is very costly and needs a lot of time too.
i have heared that there is a coloni of canadian menonites living in BELIZE and chat with one of them very nice guy indeed. if you find something intressant please keep me informed.

good drinking water and a stable government would be my basic questions.

That, and how are they on several firearms, handguns, and reloading components...

San Martín de los Andes, in Neuquén Province of Argentina.Patagonia, Los Andes mountains. One of the best places for living and hunting. Red deer, cougar and feral hog (jabalí). Rabbits, ducks, and many more animals in this area. This is my place in the world.

Best Regards.

Some of the areas in the southwestern U.S. would probably be good. From south Texas, New Mexico and Arizona.

San Martin...only been there once but you are quite right....what a lovely area and a wonderful small city. You live in paradise, mi amigo.

Paraguay, you have to be kidding.
Uruguay, thumbs up if you like the warmer climate.
Belize.....and wring out your shirts once a day; take a lot of bug spray, and the locals....????
Been there once, would never go back to even visit. Hunting...what and with what?
Costa Rica - fine but I hear it is pricey. Hunting, I don't think so.

But that does not get you far from Obama, Pelosi, Reid, Holder...shall I go on.....and except for Texas, hunting is draw only, and cost of living cannot compare to Argentina.

I do not pretend to be an expert, but I have been thinking about the same move for a few years now.

ahem...

how much trouble is it to bring handguns, and other firearms in and store them on your own place?
Ditto for reloading components, cost & availability there?

thanks,

Rich

That's the deal killer for most hunting oriented US non-residents in most foreign countries and is the main reason I'm not lolling around a ranch or home that I would own in Namibia (where as I understand it, one is able to own a home, say on the beach, but not a ranch under current law) or South Africa....same holds true for South America countries as far as I've been able to determine.

When considering US based operations of guides/outfitters, check and see if they are NRA members. If not, why support someone who doesn't support us? Consider spending your money elsewhere.

NEVER, EVER book a hunt with BLAIR WORLDWIDE HUNTING or JEFF BLAIR.

I have come to understand that in hunting, the goal is not the goal but the process.
