Has anyone gotten any good stags yet? My brother leaves for Patagonia this weekend and I haven't seen any reports yet. Has the roar started?

Read my topic from last month.

The roar has started around mid march and will end this month...

Where will be your brother hunting and with whom ?

This is the stag I took this year and some other heads that I hang in an old house that is inside our property and where sometimes I go and drink beer with the man in charge of keeping the building. Sorry about the quality but some pictures were taken with my cell phone.

Lorenzo. Again, beautiful pictures of a fine stag.

The only roar I heard last week was the roar of Guillermo´s 500 magnum hand cannon when he shot the buffalo.

Blacktailer: the roar this year is quite unusual. I don´t know if the drought or the quality or intensity of light regulates the stags´ behaviour, but most reports speak of strange antlers, thinning in the end and an abnormal rut, what with the stags appearing only during the early morning and sunset.
Lorenzo got a good head, like you may see and I hear that a hunter guided by Carlos Macias, who post here, harvested a trophy scoring more than 200 C.I.C. points, but I guess that we´ll have to wait for his report, if any. Roll Eyes

Thanks guys,
Lorenzo, I don't know much details on my brother's hunt and neither does he. It was set up by a "friend of a friend" who goes down every year. I hunted with Algar a few years ago and I think it is somewhat farther north from there.
Naintal, thanks for the info.

Hi. I have spent the last four weeks roaming on the West side of the Andes (South of Chile). There the red stag roar has ended , now the roar of the fallow deer is starting. The area has been affected also by a severe drough and unusual high temperatures. Although most of the deer are showing low weight , the quality of the trophies has been very good . Experienced outfitter commented that the weight of the antlers has been lower , giving less points in the final add. Anyhow, I took pictures of a throphy taken by a Spanish hunter with a preliminary 235 + points. Another of 210+ points taken by a U.S. hunter with a muzzle loader . And others very good taken with bows by U.S. and German hunters.
I tried to post pictures with no joy.
Pulki.

Hello,
This is my first trying to post some pictures. I hope they will show up! The hunt was done 100 km from Bariloche, from April 2nd to April 5th. The weather was chilly but we had an incredibly roar! The Red Deer of my son is an "abschuss" very rare. Mine is a very, very old 12 points. The shoots was made at 150 and 100 meters respectively. My son used one of my 7x57s. A 1935 Mauser action with a Steyr military barrel, new. 173 H-Mantel bullet at,measured, 2650 fps. Deadly one shot kill. I used my Pre-64 Winchester 70 (1954) .375 H&H. Nosler Partition 260 grs. at 2800 fps. A nice outing with one of my son. Sometimes everything goes perfect!
Regards,

PH

Very very nice trophies, both of them !!!

Are you from Argentina ?

How was the roar down there during the season ?

I hunted in La Pampa, we have good roaring some days and in the same blocks no roar at all the next day....

Yes Lorenzo, we are Argentinos. I was born in Córdoba but am living here, in Bariloche, since 1980. All my four "children" (not any more children...) was born here.
The roar was incredible so late, April 2 ! Perhaps the cold and rainy weather even with some snow as you can see in the picture, plus some hinds still ovulating, triggered the rut. In another place, 50 km south of the city, we had good roaring by March 15th. Normally the peak of the ruting season is, as you may know, around March 20.
Best Regards,
PH
PS I have some Uruguayan friends and relatives also.
