its that holiday time of year when all good sweedes, oles, and lars's come out of the night to make lutefisk. the recipe is rather simple. first you must live in an area that has an abundance of carp, buffalo, or similar fish. second you catch a few and leave them sit in the sun for 3 or 4 days. Then clean the fish and set them on the street corner by a lamp post. Dogs and cats will come along and piss on them. Within a week you lutefisk will be ready

Geez Butchloc, either your timing is awful or mine is. I was just about to make a post today about it being the time of year when a good traditional meal is in order. You know, lutefisk, stuffed cauliflower, rutabaga soup, pickled herring & eggs, yam pie, maybe even some special treats just for the kids, like sauerkraut pizza with just a dab of horseradish for spice.... And you have to scare everyone off with that cat/dog thing...yee-sh! Besides, what they don't know wouldn't have hurt them. I mean when we came here from the old country, we didn't know we'd have to live with a bunch of Irishmen, did we? And it hasn't hurt us, has it? Well, okay, maybe that's not a good example, but you know what I mean.... Hope Kris Kringle brings you lots of boiled reindeer oysters for bedtime snacking anyway.... My country gal's just a moonshiner's daughter, but I love her still.

[. first you must live in an area that has an abundance of carp, buffalo, or similar fish. Why just these "coarse" fish? I thought that cod was the fish of choice???....or maybe (in the USA) burbot, which is a cod-cousin and REEEELEEEE GOOD. When I went to college in Moorhead (Minn.), my Norwegian landlord used cod, and would use no other fish. I guess carp is OK.....but *only* OK. ....just my 2 cents worth.....

http://ingebretsens.com/foods/fish/lutefisk.html You can buy it too ! You "foreigners" should understand that there are more jokes about lutefisk than there is lutefisk ! BTW in Norway Codfish is a religion !

You forgot the part about marinating it in Drano... "Experience" is the only class you take where the exam comes before the lesson.
