When considering US based operations of guides/outfitters, check and see if they are NRA members. If not, why support someone who doesn't support us? Consider spending your money elsewhere.

NEVER, EVER book a hunt with BLAIR WORLDWIDE HUNTING or JEFF BLAIR.

I have come to understand that in hunting, the goal is not the goal but the process.

Wait a minute. Does anyone know Bill personally, maybe he's always drooling?

I like some Middle Eastern food, but on the whole I'm not that crazy about it. My favorite place nearby is in Plano, Café Istanbul.

http://www.cafe-istanbul.net/

I'm not into grape leaves and chickpeas, but love good lamb.

Bill

My problem with any restaurant I like is that I very seldom really try their menus out. I know what I like and I walk in and despite my best intentions order what I know I'll love, rather than trying something new. I know that's my weakness, but I have trouble getting around it.

Speaking of Brothels;once upon a time when you were doing a job out of state the boss would come by + not only do you supper but take you to the local cat house. I had this girl that was so beautiful that I just sat there (I was younger then) + after a bit she asked if I was ready to go.I told her just a minute,I want to look at you just a little bit more.

I would love to start in Turkey go to Iran go to Afganistan go to Pakistan go to India and try different kebabs.

Given the state of the world that wont happen anytime soon or in my lifetime.

Maybe go to London or Houston do a kebab tasting.

I'm sure I'd love the food.

When I was in college, long, long ago, there were a lot of Iranian students. Most of them chanted, and wrote on the blackboards, death to America. Not all though. And most of them didn't shower regularly, so that might have a negative impact on the food. (Have had the same reaction to French food at times by the way, so hope no one takes offense). The food tastes better when the waiter does not smell.

That said, I'd have never got through calculus without Hassan. I regret that I didn't stay in touch and wonder what happened to him.

Kensco, I have that problem with Mex-American restaurants. I always seem to crave a shredded beef enchilada plate, and use that as my standard for grading the restaurant.
Lavaca, back in the early 1970s we had a lot of Iranian students at the University of Oregon. They seemed wealthy. I remember brand new Firebirds and knee-length fur coats and a surprising number of blonde coeds.
But they were also being spied on by the Shah's miserable secret service, SAVAK.

My standard for grading Mexican Food is Huevos Rancheros (Breakfast) or Green Chili Chicken Enchiladas (Lunch or Dinner). I will also voice an opinion on salsa & chips, and the Margaritas.

If they have all the above, well done, you have found one Hell of a Mexican Food joint.

My preferred hunting grounds are in New Mexico (Las Cruces, Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Northern New Mexico in general, as in Cuba). Living in Texas, I make do where I can.

Huevos Rancheros - Poor Richard's in Plano
Enchiladas - Abuelos in Plano
Chips & Salsa - Abuelos in Plano
Margaritas - Abuelos in Plano

Hatch Chili Specials (in season) On The Border (Garland)
New upscale Tex-Mex place to try - Urban Rio in Allen http://www.urbanrio.com/

If I'm outside my area, a killer Mexican Food Joint is Los Patrones in Giddings, Texas. http://www.lospatronesmexicangrill.com/

This is my favorite Texas Tex-Mex joint because:

1. You could drop it in New Mexico and it would fit right in.
2. I have thought about seeing if the owner would like a business partner and open a restaurant in North Texas.
3. I am totally addicted to the Enchiladas Del Mar.
4. Most diverse Tex-Mex menu I've found.
5. Needs work on their Margaritas, but after three you no longer give a sh!t.
6. I forgive them for not having Huevos Rancheros since they don't open until 11:00am.

Kensco,I am in full agreement. If the salsa + Margaritas are not perfect then you can guarantee that everything else will be sub par.True test of Tex-Mex over 50 years.

Kensco

Unless things have changed there is only one restaurant in Cuba.

We don't have any decent Mexican food in middle Tennessee.

Last place I had a tamale it was a wad of masa.
I wrote it up in yelp and the owner told me they got the "famous tamale recipe" from Phoenix.
I started to reply, then decided I was just wasting electrons.

Tamales is what I use to judge since most salsa is "ok", but no one goes to the effort to make a great tamale.

Magarites in TA used to have a killer green chile burger

Hold it right there TCLouis. There are at least five restaurants in Cuba, New Mexico. El Bruno's, Cuban Café, Del Prado Café, Chaco Grill, and Presciliano's. It was so long ago I can't remember which one I was in that morning. I remember it was the dead of winter. I was headed home to Hobbs from Farmington. Solid ice on the roads until I slid in to Cuba. I was glad to be alive and the Huevos Rancheros were exquisite.

Near death experiences tend to enhance the enjoyment of food and sex. I usually prefer to start with the latter. Smiler
