Hello all

I'm looking for some good ideas for a brick bbq I wanna make. Here are some things I'm looking for.

A gas grill
A wood burning area like a fire place
A wood burning oven/smoke combo.
Sink with running water

I want to make it attached to my deck so some fire/smoke considerations. I also want to have a roof on the deck.

I can lay bricks myself, and I know how to use fireclay to bed the firebricks.

I've been searching the net for a long time but not really coming up with any great ideas. I'd really like to make the definative brick bbq.

thanks

Are you looking for a grill or a true BBQer? I true BBQer will be completely enclosed and will cook meat at a low temp (usually in the 225 degree F range) for a long period of time over indirect heat.

To me it sounds like you might be looking for both.

I'll do some searching and see if I can find something. I have a commerically bought New Baunfelds cabinet smoker that can be both a cabinet smoker and a grill. (The off set fire box has a removable grate so you can cook over direct heat, or close the lid and BBQ with indirect heat.)

I'll see what I can find for you.

Yup you got it right. I want to put gas burners and make a smoking hot grill for steaks etc. I also want to do traditional bbq looowww and sloow-but here's the kicker I also want to do pizzas--heavy bottom heat needed for that. So I'm looking at 2 or 3 cooking areas. I really want the ultimate set up and I'm willing to put in a lot of work making it, but like I said I'm darned if I can find many ideas.

thanks

I was thinking about doing something similar once (though not as grandiose!) and for the grill I was going to brick in an area that I could place a regular gas grill, that way in a few years I could just pull it out and replace it with a new one.

How large of a sink are you thinking about, something to wash your hands in or do you want to be able to fill up pots in it too?

Also, do you plan to walk around it like an island or do you want everything to be on one side?

I'd have 2 sinks but not too large somewhere between a standard household sink and a hand washing one. It will be accessed from one side only (the deck side). The grill will probably be made of cast iron burners attached to valves with natural gas orifices, naturally I want cast iron cooking grates. Most of these parts I can scavenge from a restaurant broiler that I will buy dirt cheap at some auction!! I guess the hardest part for me is finding a design for a smoker/oven that works from the get-go. I'm not trying to invent the oven I just want to make one that already is proven to work. I also want a certain "look" but haven't found an example yet.

thanks for your interest

Calgarychef1 -

Visit this web site, Multibraai,
a South African company specialising in braai/barbeque equipment and able to provide you with lots of info on request.

During our recent hunting trip in Kwa-Zulu Natal there also was a Multibraai in the camp which was very handy to quickly prepare a meal for us hunters.
