this year my mother has decided that we'll have turkey for new years eve. "ok always exciting to try out something new and exotic", i said. there's only one problem, we don't have the slightest idea of what "accesories" to go with turkey. nor do i know anybody who has eaten this bird. i understand you fill it with something? or do you serve it separately, and what is it? and the million dollar question: what does it taste like? | ||

Steffen, There are many variations of stuffing or dressing served here in the U.S with turkey. Stuffing is usually cooked in the bird and dressing (almost the same mixture) is cooked separately. I suggest that you might do an internet search for "traditional Thanksgiving recipes" and you will find a number of things served in the different regions of the U.S. Then, you can choose the recipes that you might like and that you have the ingredients available to cook with. My family usually has a roasted turky cooked with a quartered onion and a celery stalk inside the bird (be careful to not overcook and dry it out), a cornbread dressing with gravy, cranberry sauce, fruit salad, hot breads, yams or sweet potatoes, and relishes - olives, pickles, etc. Then deserts include pumpkin and pecan pies. Turky is a large bird (up to 10-11 Kilos) with much white breast meat. It is different from chicken in taste but good. In any case, many recipes are on the internet along with hints on how to keep the bird moist and flavorful. Good luck - let us know what you find and how you like it.
