Oh, cheapo here- Maxwell House or Folgers. I have bought expensive varieties before and didn't notice enough difference to warrant spending more.

I seldom drink coffee, but when I do, I found some small beans from Tanzania that are really smooth and not bitter. I'll have to find them, I use them so seldom.

I tried some Costa Rican coffee that was gifted to me. Initially it had a nice rich flavor until I quickly realized it had sugar in it. barf

Might try the No. 26 from this outfit up in Sheridan. I liked Starbucks Italian roast but they don't stock it in stores any more in my neck of the woods.

Not a brand, but a source . . .

Ethiopian Yirgacheffe

Coffee shop across the street from the office would offer it (though seldom) in their daily offerings.

Their written comment about the coffee . . .

"Smooth and buttery"

The best coffee I have ever tasted!

Black Rifle Coffee Company.

Veteran owned and operated.

I get their Murdered Out beans delivered straight to my house on a regular basis.

Murdered Out Roast

Not cheap, but in my machine it brews up hot, black and strong.

And it sho 'nuff wakes me up. Cool

And unfortunately, the company is woke and anti- 2nd Amendment.

But, what difference does it make? Coffee is bitter, hot liquid with a jolt.

I have not been paying attention. Thanks.

I just used up my remaining loyalty points and canceled my subscription.

Their website asked me why and I told them it was because I found out their company is woke and anti-2nd Amendment.

Now I need to find another fix and another connection for my coffee habit. Frowner

I like real coffee, not the black hot water that so many other people drink.

After searching for and trying many different brands, the best I have found has been Koffee Kult Dark Roast. I have been getting it on Amazon on a regular delivery every three weeks (a 2.0-pound bag) for about four years now. It is a dark road (beans) that is very smooth and has great character. Every time I try another brand, I keep coming back to this brand.

Being somewhere in between medium and dark, the bitter note is a bit much for my taste. As such Costa Rican Terrazzo is not an improvement over the Eight O'clock medium roast I've been drinking. Still a 6.5 - drinkable with nice hints of dark chocolate.
Cheers.

My favorite coffee is Winco Breafast Blend. It's a light roast. I do not like dark roasts at all. If you have to go to Starbucks, the Veranda is good too.

Have you tried adjusting your water temperature?

If you pour boiling water ( > 212°F ) over dark roast beans you will in many cases get bitter coffee.

If you pour (cooler) 190°F to 195°F water over dark roast beans you will minimize the over-extraction of bitter flavors.

Water temp is 'drinkable when fresh', gets hotter from the burner. Then not as smooth.
Water is bottled spring water that we drink daily. Good stuff served very cold. Has medium mineral taste.
Reduced the amount of fresh ground and got slightly better results.
On to another one someday.

I use a cheap drip coffee maker. Temp guess is 185-ish when brewed.

Ditto recomendations to use cooler water to brew. I boil it and let it sit for 1-2 minutes before using. Another old trick to smooth bitterness is to add just a pinch of table salt. I've got a canister of Himalayan Pink salt that I use. It makes a remarkable difference.

Yep. Salt makes a difference. Dad used to add a few grains of salt to smooth out the bitterness in bitter restaurant coffee. Saved it.
