Gents: Can any of you tell me about ways to make my own shot? I want to begin shooting clays at my home in Alaska as I'm too far from commercial ranges. I'd like a clays thrower (voice activated to avoid a cable and foot pedal) and also a way to make my own shot to lower the costs (I have a nearly unlimited supply of lead and wheel weights). Any suggestions are appreciated. Cheers all, Cal _______________________________ Cal Pappas, Willow, Alaska www.CalPappas.com www.CalPappas.blogspot.com 1994 Zimbabwe 1997 Zimbabwe 1998 Zimbabwe 1999 Zimbabwe 1999 Namibia, Botswana, Zambia--vacation 2000 Australia 2002 South Africa 2003 South Africa 2003 Zimbabwe 2005 South Africa 2005 Zimbabwe 2006 Tanzania 2006 Zimbabwe--vacation 2007 Zimbabwe--vacation 2008 Zimbabwe 2012 Australia 2013 South Africa 2013 Zimbabwe 2013 Australia 2016 Zimbabwe 2017 Zimbabwe 2018 South Africa 2018 Zimbabwe--vacation 2019 South Africa 2019 Botswana 2019 Zimbabwe vacation 2021 South Africa 2021 South Africa (2nd hunt a month later) ______________________________

Cal, Type in homemade lead shot maker on Youtube and you'll get lots of videos to view. The shotmakers have a lot of common elements to them and you should be able to build a satisfactory one for not alot of money. Appears to be very simple technology. You'll probably find lot's of reading on the subject too if you google the topic. I'll have a go at building one when my "dance card" gets alot clearer.

Basic shot maker: a sieve or collander over a bucket of cold water. It will make uneven shot with slightly wider patterns. I think if you increase the drop from sieve to water will make rounder shot. Of course the interwebs will know the details better than me. ___________ Cowboy Dan's a major player in the cowboy scene. -The Mouse

Cal, I don't know if he is still in business or not, but at one time there was a man out there named Littleton that produced a shotmaker for the commercial market. Might do an internet search...

As I recall the guys I used to work with bought a Littleton. It took a bit to get the technique down but they were happy with the results. I have a Champion trap that works great, can't believe they can make them for what they sell for, and I see they have a wireless voice activated release. I have been meaning to pick up just a wireless release to get away from the foot switch. C.G.B.

Cal, if you don't find one I have one up at our cabin at Circle Hot Springs and when I get out of hunting camp here on the peninsula I should be headed up there and can pick it up. I am sure we can work out some sort of crooked trade Anyone who claims the 30-06 is ineffective has either not tried one, or is unwittingly commenting on their own marksmanship Phil Shoemaker Alaska Master guide FAA Master pilot NRA Benefactor www.grizzlyskinsofalaska.com

I bought my shotmaker from Mel Taylor in Utah 20+ years ago. I don't know if he is still in business. A couple of years ago I bought some new nozzles for my shotmaker from James Stewart who makes and sells shotmakers. Try jstewart1934@hotmail.com NRA Endowment Life Member
