Have a question regarding 28 ga loads and wads. I have a bag of Fiocchi hulls along with about 10 boxes of loaded shells which are mostly Win. I was getting set up to start loading 28 ga 3/4 oz loads. Planning on using about 13 grs of unique. Would appreciate any comments on what wad (s) would work best in the Fiocchi case and the Win case. I was planning on using the Win Waa28HS wad in the Win cases. Can the WAA28HS also be used where the older WAA28 wad was called for in cases other than the Win HS case?? Or is there a better wad for the Fiocchi case & Unique??. Lastly are there other loads & wads better suited to the Fiocchi cases ? Thanks for any input.

Whenever I see these cases I look to www.ballisticproducts.com for the recipes. They will want to sell you their loading data publication but I've found it is good stuff and especially for the off brand hulls like Fiocchi /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." Thanks Vapo. I already have the Small Bore Manual on order. Just hoping I could get some input from someone who has already used these components.I've loaded the 12 ga for about 45 years ,the 10 ga 20 ga and 410 for a little less but have never loaded the 28 ga. A set of dies just arrived from P&W so as soon as I round up some wads I'm ready to get started.

Snowman: In my 28 G reloading experience I have found that the 28 G gs wads are suitable for HS hulls only. Also, if you attempt to reload the old style 28 hulls w/ HS wads you'll encounter a heap of trouble. I prefer the old style Win or Rem hulls as you have a much broader choice of wads. Finally, I'm sorry, but I can't help w/ the Fiocchis. In summation, 28 G Win HS hulls w/ the red 28 G Win wads only. Old style Win 28 G hulls widee choice of aftermarket or factory Win wads, but not those specified for the HS. Hope that's clear. Best, Bob

My usual load for 28 ga with fiocchi hulls is 800X with 3/4 oz shot and the remington wad, just because I have a lot of them. I will say my experience with the AAHS wad and reloading was the opposite of BobSmith. The HS would "work" in applications that called for the regular wad, but the regular wad would absolutely not work with HS hulls- that the wad skirting would catch in the molded base plug that they are now using with the "pseudo rifenhauser" design. I had more fouling, but the HS would assemble into a usable shell, albeit requiring some playing around to get an appropriate crimp. Really, the HS hulls are an abomination that I save up and load only by themselves and just get the HS wads for that purpose every few years, as in my experience the load I have works pretty well with Federal, Remington, Estate, and Fiocchi hulls, although sometimes the crimps are not all I would like when I do them all together and don't reset the wad height between hull types.

CR: You are correct about the HS hulls. The key phrase for me however is " fiddling around". Being the lazy critter that I am, once my press is set, I'm inclined to leave it and use only hulls, components, and loads that fit the set up. Best, Bob

I have no experience with Fiocchi hulls so cannot comment on that part of your question. I have confined my 28 Ga loading to HS hulls simply because the old straight wall 28AAs are no longer available - in fact last year I through away 500 once fireds when I couldn't find non HS wads and made a mess trying to use WAA28HS. I find Claybuster 28 wads work much, MUCH better than WAA28HSs in 28 Win HS hulls. The pedels are slightly shorter, noticably stiffer and provide trouble free loading in my PW 800C. Regards,

you can load Fiocchi, Federal, Estate and the Euro Trash hulls (Challanger, Kent, Rio, PMC etc.) very well using the AAHS wad and it's clones, the CB-5034 HS and the revised Red Druster. The 28 ga AAHS hull is more like a straight walled hull than like the older Tapered hull of the CFAA. I can easily get +10 reloads out the the AAHS easily twice that of others. I'll take all the AA's I can get.
