When I loaded for skeet, 12 ga I used to use Red Dot. I need to load up a few hundred 12 ga. again but I am out of Red Dot. I have plenty of Universal Clays however as I use it for 28 and 20 ga. Anyone use it for 12 ?

Thanks hunt-ducks. I just found a can of Red Dot but will keep the Clays as a backup for 12 ga.

There's a difference between Hodgdon Clays and Hodgdon Clays Universal.

The Hodgdon website lists 12 ga loads for 1 1/8 oz and 1 1/4 oz with Universal powder, but NO loads for 7/8 or 1 oz.

I also shoot a lot of skeet. I use Clays for 12 ga, Clays International for 20 ga, and Clays Universal for 28 ga loads.

I use Clays for all of my 7/8 oz, 1 oz, and 1 1/8 oz 12 ga loads. The load data is on the yellow data sheet included in all of the Claybuster wad bags. The Claybuster data sheet does not list any 12 ga loads with Universal powder.

And yes, Clays loads work great and are very clean burning.

buffy you are correct. The Hodgdon website list different loads for "Clays"; "Universal" and "International". I found the loads you mentioned for the 1 1/8 load and Universal (Clays). I find the naming convention employed by Hodgdons very confusing! I do use Universal Clays for my 28 ga. loads and did find some Red Dot for my 12 ga. loads.
