I posted this on the 4WD forum and received zero response. Perhaps some of you guys can help? I just bought a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited for occasional use. I am not familiar with 4 WD vehicles so I would like to know what kind of maintenance these need, and, what things tend to go wrong on a Jeep Cherokee. After purchase, I had the engine oil changed and also the oil in the front and rear differentials. The transfer case oil seemed to be OK. Peter. Be without fear in the face of your enemies. Normal maintainance is all you need.If it is a 4.0 the engine will run forever and the transmission if automatic is Asian-Warner made by Toyota, literaly trouble free.Best two combinations put in any vehicle in my estimation.

Had an interesting experience with my Jeep Cherokee. It stalled twice on me. Engine would crank but not start. After letting it sit for 10 minutes, started right up. Checked the web and found out that this is (supposedly) not an uncommon problem for Jeep Cherokees. this happened after I drove it 430 miles! Per the advice on the web I had the crankshaft position sensor replaced. The repair guy did the replacement and said that the part had obviously been replaced before as it looked in excellent condition. I really don't know whether the problem is solved or not. Any of you guys had this issue? I guess the next step is to replace the cam sensor. Peter Be without fear in the face of your enemies. Be brave and upright, that God may love thee. Peter, I have a 1994 GC with V8 engine. It has 174,000 miles on it and runs just fine. It gets hunted pretty hard. I built it for hunting. Except for replacing the fuel pump, no problems. Just regular oil changes and replacing things that wear out (brakes etc.). Have you tried the NAGCA forum? Very helpful for GC owners. Good luck.
