I'm just in the throes of insuring a bike and re-insuring my old Jeep.

The bike is a new Chinese copy of a Honda Dax mini bike with a 125cc engine, a top speed of about 80 km per hour, will probably do less than 500 km per year and cost a tad under E1600. My first quote was E165 and I eventually got it down to E77.

My Jeep has a 5.9 V8 engine has a few go-faster add ons and is valued at between E25K - 30K and renewal is costing me just E37.95 for the year.

Someone tell me, HTF does a 125 cc mini motorcycle of very low value cost between 2 and 4 times the cost of a classic car of that power and value that's worth something like 20 times the value of the bike?

I'm completely baffled!

Insurance companies figure it off of the general group they find to be using each type of vehicle. Most of the time they figure

motorcycle = young, testosterone fueled bad decisions will be made, and we will have to pay out

I know it makes you wonder. My current 09 Toyota Tacoma costs less than a quarter of what my BMW K1200GT did to ensure.

Yes it's cocked, and it has bullets too!!!

I also wondered that but they had my driving history and know I'm pushing 60 and have held full bike & car licences since the 1970s and have a clean driving record etc so in theory at least, one would expect them to take that into account. bewildered

Mate, I think you might right! LOL!

Oh BTW...... It looks like I'm going to be doing a few classic car rallies in the old Jeep this year and next so anytime you fancy being co-driver just let me know. tu2

The one I'd really like to do is the London to Lisbon but that'd be a mega expensive one to do because of the fuel costs so am not sure if that particular one will happen. bewildered

I'm sure we'll definitely win that part of the competition and we should do well in the rally because the last time I was asked to do a rally (I was unable to go) they told me if I did enter, I'd win the class because I'd be the only car in the class! animal

Nah mate, nearly 60, deaf as a post, a certified bean bag, old would be good enough reasons to cancel drivers licences and confiscate any vehicles owned by yourself. Roll Eyes jumping animal

I might perhaps understand it if it was something like a Harley, Ducati or Laverda etc but this is a just a little mini bike that fits in the back of a car. http://www.greenfactory.pt/skymax-honda-dax-125/

Yeah but, you must remember that, should I wish to do so, I could buy my way out of damn near anything in this part of the world. What I am saying is that so many here do not worry about insurances, vehicle licences and so on and if the fan should start spreading the brown and smelly, just pay someone off. Cool

Steve,

you should get in touch with Elaines uncle if you are into classic car rallies. He's been organising them for 50 years.

you can't go wrong with a mad Irish man that invented lawnmower racing!!
