Hi, here are some photos of my father's collection. He restores these in his spare time. 1960 Austen Healey 3000 He has two other Healeys, both in various stages of renovation. 3.8L Jaguar E-Type He is currently busy restoring a 4.2L E-Type, also a roadster. Merc 190 SL This one is waiting to be restored, after the 2 Healeys and E-Type.

Thanks, he does have impeccable taste in sports cars. Fortunately he is able to do the restoration work himself, which makes a huge difference in the affordability of these treasures. About two years ago, he had completed the 4.2 E-Type (not pictured above) and a member of the fairer sex T-boned into it while he was out on a Sunday drive. Hence he has had to start rebuilding it from scratch. It nearly broke his heart.

I'll bet it nearly broke his heart....... I'd have been inclined to break her bloody neck! Where in SA is your father located?

He managed to remain surprisingly calm. I don not think I would have been able to! He is in George, southern Cape.

Me neither. I'd have been spitting feathers! Shame he's so far away from the lowveld. If he's been closer, I'd have tried to sign him up to join our classic car club.

'tis a pity! | |||

Do you know what year the Merc is? I'd guess at around the 70s or so?

Steve I am under correction here but I think it is a 1959 model. The 190 SL was produced from 1955-1963, succeeded bu the 230, 250 & 280 SL.

Mate, he does know what sort of figure it's worth I assume? http://www.nadaguides.com/defa...=76382&z=12345&da=-1 NADA values are usually a bit hit and miss but those old (about pre mid 70s or so) SLs can be worth serious money.

They have been very good investments. Take a look at what that 1962 E-Type roadster is worth. Scary.

Those are stunning, and he's got a hard top for his Healey, I'm jealous..... Restoration is tough work and just finding the parts can take forever.....Even with Moss Motors I'd never have the patience for it.... That E-Type is on my bucket list too... But I don't think I will ever swing one..... Beer is proof that God loves us, and wants us to be happy....Benjamin Franklin

He has an original hard top for the E-Type as well...I don't know how he finds these things. He could probably find rocking-horse sh1t.

As you're in Pretoria, you're pretty close to a treasure trove of classic cars and bits. I was driving back from Jo'burg a few weeks ago and drove along (I think?) Main Street or Main Road? The area was pretty shitty but there was dealer forecourt after dealer forecourt full of classic (mostly sports) cars. Don't know when I'll find time but I'll try to get back there and take a closer look.

Is that Main Rd in Randburg? I have seen some stuff worth closer inspection there before too.

I don't know Jo'burg very well so am not entirely sure but yes, I think it probably was! I'll have to try to find time to get my arse down there for a proper look.

Describes most of Joburg, but it probably was Main Rd in Randburg/Strijdom Park

Yup, I'm 99% sure it was close to Strijdom Park
