Tata, the India equivalent of Bill Gates, bought Jaguar several years ago for two-billion dollars, and assumed some serious debt.

The good news: he doesn't need Jaguar to break even.

The bad news: it isn't.

The old company filled a very unique slot: the gentleman's sporting automobile, two or four door.

They brought out a very sporty 2-seater, with the V-6 it costs as much as a new corvette. With the 550bhp supercharged V-8 it runs close to $130,000. That matches up waaaaaaaaay too close the the classic XK-8 in coupe or convertible, cost wise. The XK-8 comes with a few more amenities, wood dash, and trim, and a back seat large enough to carry all your luggage or small children. With the new one, you have to stick either in the trunk. Said trunk is slightly larger than the trip trunk on my old HD Electra Glide Classic.

They weigh, with either cylinder count, over 4,000lbs. That is close to half-a-ton more than the Porsche Boxster or a Corvette. Even more, than a Viper.

The new car is not doing well VS the XK-8 sales wise. Jaguar's solution; drop the XK-8 at the end of this model year.

I love my XK-8 convertible, but it's like Jaguar hired the old Colt management team after their last bankruptcy.

Mine is a 2000. It weighs less than the new 2-seater F-type.

Ford ownership was the best thing that happened to Jaguar since the XK-E was introduced in 1961.
Now, they are reduced to a boutique item...

ANY "Colt management team" would be an improvement over any Jaguar management team
that has controlled the company in the living memory of anyone here...
