I know how you feel.... we had the same sort of BS with the removal company when we moved from RSA to PT last year.... I'd rather pay more to a company that'll treat you fairly than one that's cheaper but wants to fuck you over.

I notice there were no pics of the interior so that might suggest it'll need some work on the carpets and upholstery but that's not the end of the world...... I'll also bet the sun visors have blown as they always do so you'll almost certainly have them to recover at the very least....... but again, not much of a problem.

I actually envy you....... I LOVE those cars and will look forward to hearing/reading/seeing the updates on how it all progresses for you. Wink

When considering US based operations of guides/outfitters, check and see if they are NRA members. If not, why support someone who doesn't support us? Consider spending your money elsewhere.

As it happens, I can tell you that..... shipping costs are about US$2K and the duty I pay here on a car of that sort of value is about US$5 or 6K.

So let me know if you get fed up with it! Smiler

I think I mentioned it earlier in the thread but my fairly extensive research tells me I can buy a fully restored mid 60s SL190 in RSA for something in the region of E10K, ship it for about E2K, pay import duty of about E8K and retail value here is about E50K.

So I'm probably going to give it a trial run next year and see how it goes.

I love the mid 60s models and apart from the gull wings, reckon they're the most stylish of all the SLs etc but have to say a 70s or 80s model would be more comfortable and less hassle.

Dave Sorel, I forgot to ask. Can you get a gun case in the trunk of your 2003 C5 Vette? How much shooting stuff can you carry in thst car?

I can get three sets of golf clubs in the trunk of my Jag, or a couple of gun cases, and luggage for two for two weeks. Then we can start on filling the back seat. Five bags of groceries last trip...

Thanks IHS. Now, these clubs are not the "collapsable" kind are they?!!!

oops! forgot to say putt-putt golf. I made a hole in one Saturday, ran it right thru the clown's mouth.

Seriously, you have to wiggle them around, and no belly putters.

IMHO, the XK-8 convertible is about the most user friendly for an all around GT.
