Anyone else bummed that the floor shifter is gone in the newer models with an automatic? CB

that is small potatoes. I am bummed that they dropped the gullwing coupes for a cookie cutter model that you could not tell is an MB if the emblems were removed...

No. It just got in the way of getting a blow job.

I like the column shifter on mine (2015 E Class). Also like the way the cruise control is set up, hardly need to use the gas pedal any more.

Just a little sushi and some wine......

And yes, the MB cruise is second to none. Very simple and makes sense.

No, not really. Console shifters are less convenient and take up much-needed interior space when compared to column-mounted ones. Their size has gotten silly over the last 10 or so years, with some resembling a croquet mallet sticking out of the trans tunnel. I really wish the rest of the pickup truck and SUV makers would follow suit.

The steering wheel paddles for the auto or dual clutch trans are far more convenient and engaging than the same functionality on the center console, IMO.

I didn't think that any luxury sports cars had a console shifter any more. Just a pop up dial! I think that Jags led the way. Just set the Drive and use the paddle shifter if needed.

By the way, even the E Class Mercedes sedans have paddle shifters on the steering wheel, so full manual gear choice is still there.

Well. If things keep going in this direction, we'll be able to hit the cruise button and have lunch while the car drives itself. Car & Driver magazine will change its' name to Car & go-er.

Automatic, cruise control, GPS, voice commands, etc. are ok for me. My next car should drive itself to where it's told to go while I read or take a nap.
