Strewth, I've just seen on the UK news that the petrol/gasoline price in the UK has just gone up to the equivalent of US$10 per gallon.

What do you guys pay?

Google this (SaltWater.wmv) Check it out! Amazing!I bet if soneone invested in this. BIG oil and coal are going to shit in their pants.
I am a Mechanical Engineer and this just makes want to burst out laughing! GREAT! I hope it can be developed as a source of energy for practical applications.
$2.70 a gal for regular unleaded in Dallas, Texas. A month ago it was $2.48. It bounces around a bit. Salt water would be 20 gal per 1 cent.

I paid 3.39 a gallon for 93 octane yesterday -- it's gone up quite a bit lately.

As American drivers groan over prices nearing $4 a gallon, the French are paying $8.67 for a gallon of super, compared to $7.10 in January, 2007. A gallon of diesel in French gas stations averages $8.54, up from $5.35 just a year ago. And in the U.K. diesel costs $11.50 per gallon, compared to around $3.90 in the U.S. Across the European Union, the average cost of a gallon of gas runs to about $8.70 — more than twice what Americans are shelling out to fill up. And Europe's dizzying fuel costs would be even worse if it weren't for the considerable appreciation of the euro and the British pound against the dollar over the past year, which has partially offset the price escalation in dollar-traded oil.

One big reason for the difference is that European governments put a much higher tax burden on fuel than the U.S. does. State and federal taxes currently make up just 11% of the pump price in the U.S., according to the Energy Information Administration; in France and the U.K., taxes account for an average of around 70%.

I don't really know about the rest of Europe but in the UK, successive Govts of ALL parties have always steadily increased the tax on fuel. So I guess it's more accurate to say it's political rather than socialism....... not that I'm a fan of socialism. If I had my way, we'd have the entire upper echelon of the (previous) Liebour Govt hanged for treason...... to say nothing of further charges of crimes against humanity.

As for the current American Govt. I reckon the sooner you get rid of that bunch the better. Take a look at what the Liebour Govt did to the UK and be warned by it!

going back to fuel. If only for the sake of accuracy, let's not forget that a US gallon is slightly smaller than an Imperial gallon.

I noticed today that premium no lead was $3.25 in Austin, Texas. It was at one of the more expensive Texaco stations.

95 octane petrol here in New Zealand is about $2.00 per litre - which is about US $1.45 or so.

If you want to convert to imperial measure or US gallon equivalent then you will need your calculator - we have used metrics here since 1967 so I dont think in gallons any more... Wink

I've only done a bit of mental arithmetic but think it works out to about US$6.50 per US gallon.

I did read something a while ago that predicted US$150 a barrel by about April or May or so this year....... unfortunately, I reckon it might be true! Confused

The U.S. Gallon is quite a bit less than the Imperial Gallon. The U.S. Gallon is 4 U.S. quarts or 128 ounces. The Imperial Gallon is 5 U.S. quarts or 160 ounces.

And a U.S. quart of whiskey is a "Fifth" of an Imperial Gallon....
