I went to college in Florida in the mid 60s. Was able to attend the 24 hour at Daytona and the Sebring 12 hour a number of times during the Ford-Ferrari wars ... a wonderful time to watch racing.

Fell in love with the equipment of the era. Never could quite dredge up the cash to do it for real ... so eventually I settled for playing with high performance replicas.

The first has been complete for a number of years ... a Cobra 427 SC replica powered by a 425 horse 347 stoker built by Coast Industries. At 2200 pounds it is quick with that kind of powerplant:

Performance is really quite like the original. Loud, fast and generally unruly!

I have started a GT40 as well ... but this Africa thing has gotten all of the money so it sits looking back at me like this:

Has a Porsche G50/52 transaxle with spray bars and all the other goodies. The engine is built with a 350 4 bolt racing block, Lunati forged crank, Oliver rods, forged pistons, good heads, and TDS valve train. Made 506 hp at 7,000 rpm. The builder suggested that it should go 100 or so more if he'd been allowed to use a "real cam." But the transaxle is the limiting factor I think.

This fella may never get finished if I don't skip a couple of years hunting in Africa.
