Idaho SharpshooterThe Best Year, and why
Okay, name your favorite year for American muscle cars and why. I think 1970, by a landslide.

WhitworthI'd have to say 1968. As Mopar guy, it was significant because the second gen Charger was introduced, the Road Runner hit the streets for the first year, and the '68 Hemi Cuda was born and to this day still dominates the Super Stock AA class.

1969, I like what they did with the grill on the charger and the tail lights on most all the cars.from one mopar guy to another.

congomikeI would have to say 69 and 70. I say 70 only because of the introduction of the Challenger and the HemiCuda...I am a Mopar guy at heart. I liked the 69 Charger the best, along with the Roadrunner, GTX and a very seldom seen 69 Barracuda Formula S coupe with a 340 four speed.
My buddy had one and it was a Camaro eater.

eezridrI vote 1969; (69 Camaro SS/RS convertible 396/350HP, 4 speed) However if you consider all mustangs, challengers and camaros as muscle cars. Any of these units in 2011 will eat the late 60's / early 70's cars for lunch.
Camaros SS @425HP
Mustang GT's @ +400HP (great little motor)
Challengers @425HP
Soon to be Camaro Z28 @ +500HP
Shelby Cobras at +500HP
I suppose the definition of the Muscle car era is 67-71. I would add that in the mid 70's - mid 80's you thought you would never see high HP cars again. Glad I am here to see it!

Conservative RiflemanMy favorite was the 1969 Ford XL convertible I bought new. It had the ordered 429 engine with the four barrel. Mine had AC which worked out great. Huge trunk could hold at least three deer!

Well since you say '69 & 70 I'll split the difference and say 69 1/2 since I own a mid-year package car.

I had a complete Stage III intake (with carbs and linkae) that I sold for chump change in the late-80s. I'm still kicking myself. Very cool!

Frostbit, that is just beautiful! I had a '69 Runner (same color) but with a vinyl top. Sold it in 1990.
