I think it was because in the second grade one of my first baseball cards was his. As a kid I always pretended to be him in our vacant lot and backyard games. Most of my friends pretended to be Mickey Mantle.

I too saw that game on TV. IIRC Mays also hit another long fly ball that was caught. Almost had five!

My Gramps had a stint with the Giants farm club. Was in spring training with Willie. But life and curve balls got in the way!
