Hey guys, I lurk here only periodically so pardon me it this is an old topic. I recently bought a 16 1/4" 50 cal Contender muzzleloader barrel from Dave Van Horn. W/ initial (and very limited) load development, I shot the same Pyrodex RS I had previously shot in my T/C New Englander rifle. I realize there are a multitude of different powders available these days and everyone has an opinion as to what's best. I'm open to your suggestions, but my MAIN question is whether I should continue using an FFg equivalent powder or should instead use an FFFg equivalent powder? I hope to shoot 240 gr bullets w/ sabots. Gary T.

Gary I'd use fffg triple 7 or Pyrodex "P" if you don't intend to shoot a bullet heavier than the 240. I used Pyrodex "P" with light bullets (up to 250 grain)in my 50 calibers for years, but switched to 777 last year and won't be going back.

GH, Thanks for the suggestions. Am curious as to why you prefer 777 over Pyrodex? Gary T.
