What is a grease cookie?

I read a grease cookie is often used between bullet and powder in BP cartridge loading. But I've never read exactly what a grease cookie is.
I don't believe a squirt of grease is put in the cartridge case, even if it was above a wad card it would soon bleed through the wad and contaminate the powder.

Lube is extruded out into a sheet like cookie dough, then bullet dia grease cookies are punched out.

An example of such a thing is the Wonder Wad. It consists of a bore size felt wad impregnated with a lubricant like Bore Butter. There are probably others as well, possibly like the old Ipco grease wads that were once used betweeen the powder & bullet of loads in high-intensity rounds such as the .220 Swift to reduce barrel erosion. There were also some made of graphite for similar applications.

In addition, one could no doubt make them as suggested above by swheeler. The trick is to use a grease mix that will provide the lubrication you want, and have a melting temperature high enough that it is not going to melt and contaminate the powder after the ammo or gun is loaded.....

Greenjoy,

I just returned from the Quigley Rifle Match last week. Over 600 shooters, and 90+% were shooting a grease cookie.
Sequence: powder in primed case, powder compressed if you shoot a compressed load, card, fiber, or poly wad on top of powder, grease cookie on top of wad (this is where the lube melting temp comes into play), seat bullet.
Shoot, repeat.

Try www.shilohrifle.com for more information than you can digest in a year.
