Looking at purchasing the "Pennsylvania" percussion rifle manufactured by Traditions firearms. I'm also interested in thier single shot "Trapper" pistol that looks a lot like the T/C Patriot that was discontinued some years ago. Would appreciate feedback from folks who have had experience with either of these guns.

Traditions makes a good caplock rifle. I do not have either of the guns you refer to but I do have the Crocket .32. The crocket is a nice little rifle for a factory mass production job. Fit and finish is generally good. I breifly owned the trapper pistol. I found the fit to be extremly lacking. Th lock mortice was cut too high. The drum would contact the cutout in the lock too so as a result which caused the whole barrel to be twisted in the stock about 20 or 30 degrees. I could have fixed it by annealing the lock plate and filing the drum cutout until the barrel would align square with the stock. I decided that I should not have to fix so obvious an error on a factory gun. Tweeking the lock or triggers I do not mind. Major repairs are another story. The pistol was a gift from my wife. I took it back to Bass Pro to trade it in and found every single Trapper pistol they had suffered from the same fault. I got my money back. This is either a bad run with the equipment out of tolerance or they never set up the pattern correctly to begin with.

Everything is squared up correctly on the Crocket rifle though with only some minor gapping.

So look them over real good before buying or if mail ordering make sure the return policy is a good one. Generally, I have found Traditions products to shoot very well. Had a Traditions cap-n-ball pistol that shot very well and had a very nice trigger.

Thanks for the input. Plan to order a Pennsylania caplock through a local storefront, that way if there are any problems I've got a person I can talk to.
