ive got a cva eclipes magnum 50ca. and got a couple questions.
1. would like to no how much pyrodex is need to deer hunt with. gun can handle 150gr but ive read you dont need that much unless you shooting long range.id say 150 yards max mostlikely under 100yard. ive got winchester partition gold 260gr sabots.
2.cleaning? few patches after every shot? what do you all do?
3.am i the only one that drive to every walmart and meijer to get all the clearance prices at the end of the season? thats how i got most of my m/l sapplies.

Q #1. 100 grains is plenty powerful enough for deer out to 125 yards or so. I use 90 with a round ball!

Q #2. With Pyrodex, you should NOT have to clean between shots. The manufacturer recommends NO CLEANING between shots, but it MIGHT be necessary with sabots, depending on how tight they are in the loading process.

Q #3. I don't do this!

I have little faith in sabots, especially those that use some kind of pistol bullet! Sabots are a real pain to load, particularly in a dirty bore!! I have no experience with the ones you bought. They may be OK. I prefer the Power Belt bullets because they are very easy to load, which is important in hunting situations, and are legal in Colorado where sabots are prohibited. However, Power Belt bullets don't work well in all guns!
