I am sure you guys have beat this one to death but does anyone know any acceptable way to send black powder or pyrodex on international airlines? All my sources say it is not legal to ship. I know all the illegal ways it gets done but.....can it be done legal and with the regulations of TSA and any of the major airlines? You might be able to ship Pyrodex to some countries, but I do not believe ANY AIRLINE will permit real black powder on a plane - I wouldn't!! BUT, Pyrodex is a "flammable solid" not an explosive, so it might be shippable. In fact, Pyro is less flammable than a lot of other materials that are not even used for propellants. I am sure the destination country is also a significant factor in this equation. "Bitte, trinks du nicht das Wasser. Dahin haben die Kuhen gesheissen."

El Deguello I did a bit of quick research on the shippmint of Black Powder and Pyrodex. Northwest prohibits the shipment of Pyordex and black powder. Southwest prohibits "gun powder" black powder, primers..... The rest I looked at were not as specific. TSA had no stand on the subject that I could find except to comply with airline reg's. You might want to see if reloaded black powder shotgun shells or say 45-70's or even 50-120's are permissable on flights

This would certainly be a good subject to discuss with your outfitter/PH over there. Surely they have bp, etc in stock in the main cities. Gee, they used it by the tons until the late 1880's. Jim Shockey used one not long ago, he'd be another to contact. Good luck, please post your findings once you get them. Might be others could learn from it. Sorry, but, I forgot one on the last post. There's a lot of great contacts in the African section. Go over there and ask your questions. I got several fine replies in short order to a question I posted last week. George "Gun Control is NOT about Guns' "It's about Control!!" Join the NRA today!" LM: NRA, DAV, George L. Dwight

Thanks George, I have been told buy my outfitter that I cannot ship to Pyro, 777 or any BP to them. I understand that the only BP I'd be able to find in SA is a brand called Wano and that It's not sold in the US...so I would not be able to get any to work up loads with, in my gun. I'm still working on this

Long as you can get some of it, make sure the outfitter will go buy a pound for you. you can send him the money to cover it. Once you get there, just a couple shots should be all it takes to check it out. Start just a little less than you usually use with what ever, if it seems ok. Then go for the full charge you use and compare., Shoot a couple targets at the same range you'reused to for accuracy. That's about all bp needs. BINGO ! Simply travel with your BP rifle and a cartridge shotgun and load all your shotgun ammo with BP. A Zim. PH who posts here recently told the story of a client of his who did this. His rifle also used std. primers so they were even able to de-prime the cases on arrival for use with the powder they cannibalized from the shells. This is the only way to transport this stuff overseas as far as I know. The BP you can get in many of these areas is also apparently SH(T! Best, John

I believe Graf's ( http://www.grafs.com ) in Missouri markets a line of black powder that is actually Wano BP. I've used a fiar amount of it and it works well, although not as well as Swiss for BP Express loading. For any standard kind of stuff, like shotshells, Sharps ctgs or muzzleloading it's great.
