I took a nice bull last Saturday moning here in New Mexico.
My question is, I was using a 300gr. Shockwave bullet. The shot was at 20 yds. using 130gr. pyrodex, 50cal,Both lungs.
I thought it was a pass threw because of a fairly large exit. But found the bullet in the skin.
I check the weight it was 205gr.
Is this a average or poor weight retention.
Thank
Matt

I would rate that quite poor. I get 80-97% using pure lead bullets. And it's very rare that I fail to get pass throughs. Very rare. (so that percentage rate is from a way small sample size).

Hey great bull! Sandi and I have used the 250 grain SST version on 5 animals so far this fall. I've only got back the one bullet from a 70 neck shot on a bull moose. I'd say that A) you are a heck of a hunter for getting close for a 20 yard shot and B) the bullet did well. The elk was dead in hurry right?
